No, not the song from Buffy the Musical...but if this board goes away, where are people planning to get their dose of the Internet's subcultural discussion?

Well, Popcket Barbelith over at Delphi and the seldom-used Barbelith Yahoo group are still around, although I suggest we don't go for the Yahoo option, as following any kind of conversation there is a slow and laborious process.

Other than that, I have no idea. This being the first and only message board I've spent any time on, I'm going to have to do some searching.

If we do decide on a place to go after here, let's not post it on the board. It would be rather regretful to have left a trail behind us for our bastard troll children to follow.

I don't know. I honestly don't. For about an hour, I toyed with the idea of setting up my own board and becoming some sort of mad-evil dictator, but then I realized I don't much like being in charge of things.

There probably won't be just one board or discussion group. Right now, I'm going to look into joining the z-cluster mailing list and taking a look at the boards over at Chaos Magic to get my daily dose of magicky goodness. There's Thee Big Acidic Mudshow . I'll look around for a decent Buffy/Angel discussion group since that's all I really talk about in the film and theatre forum. I'll probably have to give up discussing books since I haven't found a decent general book discussion group. They're all focused on one specific genre or author.

I just don't know. Barbelith has always been the one place that I've been able to discuss everything I've wanted to. Books, magick, and Buffy.

Look, if anyone's going to be a mad evil dictator it's going to be me, d'you hear? You can overthrow me in the name of righteousness if you get bored.

I'm hoping that it won't come to this, I'm hoping that Barbelith will weather the current storm. However, the doors (okay, mildewed canvas curtains) of the mudshow will always be open to 'Lithers.

...now that all of the children are growing up?
And how will we spend our time?
If there's no one to lend us a hand?

Is that right? I always mess up lyrics.

um... If we're going to sneak quietly to some other place, will someone let me know where that is? I think the only way for most 'lithers to do that (except, maybe, expressionless, who has my e-mail) is by PM.

Trijhaos

So if nobody posts the address on the board, how will the word get out? I mean, would there be some designated person we e-mail to get directions to it or something?

Nobody would recognize my e-mail address. It's long. I could be a knodge. There's no way to know.

I think we should all set sail to Pocket Barbelith if this here board goes down with all hands. (arr).

Anyone care to provide me with a link? I thought it was on my favourites, but I've lost it..

We could all invade Mark Millar's new self-run, I wish I was Warren Ellis board that's starting up soon. That might be a laugh.

Oh, nevermind. No it won't.

What's involved in running a board like this. Maybe I will.

Zoom.

I would advise against trying to start an "alternative Barbelith". I don't think it would work. It would be too self-conscious. Plus, it would be an automatic target for The Thing From Swansea.

I know that if we don't get together and create something new and better from the scraps of Barbelith if the place does shut down, I'll just start posting full time over on People Talk Too Loud and I Love Music.

If the 'lith dies I'll probably go down with the ship, virtually speaking. I can't imagine finding another place that culturejams in such a profoundly groovalicious way.

Yeah...me too. I always did prefer rats to squirrels. Be sad to get my ninja outfit all waterlogged though.

22:03 / 24.07.02
Er...I just remembered that rats are supposed to be the first to desert a sinking ship. Well, I am here to inform you all that rats have had some bad press, and, quite frankly, they've been misrepresented in the past. Many a good and loyal rat has gone to a watery grave rather than desert hir ship, I'll have you know...

You prefer rats to squirrels? That's horrible. Squirrels are cute and lovable and fluffy. Rats...rats are just icky.

There's a comotose Mystic Order of Barelith that may work for the magick discussion, but most of the other message boards I have read have such a high noise to signal ratio, I'll prolly just stick to getting pissed off at the old fogey on the Kirby-L, Timely/Atlas-L and a couple of other mailing lists.

Ghods, I lost the Gloomcookie list earlier this year, and a political discussion list last year.

Maybe it's my fault.

I'm with good ol' Naked Flame. He can handle playing the music as the ship sinks-

I'll start the riots that the crew can stave off with dogged shows of will so that we can die with dignity.

I'd be interested in having Johnny O, the Ganeshaus Complex, Grant, Monkey, Lurid and Mordant get together and decide where to go. Then, I'd try to sneak in the door behind them.

However, I would prefer that they choose a board with a strong troll defense system.

I'm in for the duration.
And squirrels rock. Rats are poo.

Yeah, man, it'll be just like Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

And rats are far superior to those duster-tailed beasties that you lot seem, inexplicably, to like.

2002 was the year Barbelith shattered into a thousand shards. But what was reflected in those shards? Perhaps a glint of the former glory? Over the course of the next three years, many splinter sites opened across the world, each carrying if not the name at least some glimmer of the former Barbelith. And in this way the formerly underground society grew into a vast Barbelithian Diaspora, where each new Barbelithian was still baptized in the name of the vanished creator who some believed would one day return to reunite the myriad factions that had grown from the fragments of his beautiful glass creation.

Or alternatively the year everyone smashed their computers and got really sad, an option I'm currently considering.

And you can say what you like about squirrels... they cling on to the bitter end. (Or is that badgers? I'm getting confused now...)
