'Cracked narcissism' and 'disturbed individual' - and, for that matter, 'martyr complex' - are descriptive terms rather than necessarily "derogatory". I challenge you, or anyone else, to find them inappropriate labels.

At this stage in the proceedings - and with our prior knowledge of Andrew's behaviour - I think it highly unlikely that what we say or do in this forum will influence him either way. If he's planning to return and spam us senseless again, that's what he'll do. If not, he won't. "For good" is a rather weighty assumption.

The 'Mumra' thread's been debated many times. I'd argue strongly that it's important to have a single thread in which that individual's behaviour can be discussed - otherwise we leave ourselves open to numerous new threads asking 'who was the knowledge and why have you banned him'. At present, moderators can direct the inquisitive to the 'Mumra' thread and delete new ones as they open. Again, I'd suggest that many of those "insults" are, in fact, fairly accurate descriptions of his actions and probable motivation.

And, after all, IT'S ONLY WORDS!!!! LIGHTEN THE FUCK UP!!!!

Etc. Insert smiley, blah-de-blah.

To return to topic, has anyone heard from Tom? Has anyone had even the slightest 'from the horse's mouth' indication of whether we'll be here after the weekend? I'd email Tom and ask but I suspect he's already inundated...

ganesh - if you are holding hope of pawning him off onto another board, f2b is not the place. not only is the possibility that hes only interested in barbelith very likely, but hed never get the sort of attention he seems to crave. hes been there, and it seems we bored him to death

there is a decided lack of what haus likes to refer to as "grown up juice". knowledge just gets lost amongst it

and we also know how to ignore (or annoy) even the most persistent troll

The "pawning" wasn't particularly my idea, BK; in the 'Shutting down Barbelith' thread, one Aussieintl appeared to be welcoming Andrew to the Fade to Black board with open arms.

As you say, he'd likely be psychologically somewhat adrift among a sea of JOKES and individuals who have no difficulties LIGHTENING UP at all times. 'Twas a vain hope, really.

We seem to be talking about him again. Do people think this sort of discussion should be diverted to the 'Mumra' thread or is it relevant to Jack's original topic?

It's not relevant in the slightest, really, not to Jack's first post nor the topic abstract. The onle reason Calo came back into the conversation was that he posted on the WEF thread that Jack linked to. I think that maybe it's time we moved on to other things. Questions about trolling are being handled in Tann's thread without the references to one in particular threatening to derail it. That seems to me to be the way to go about this discussion now.

And, of course, because Panda is Calo.

I think it was relevant in discussing how the possible decommissioning of Barbelith is being perceived. I don't think it is relevant anymore. I think that if Andrew needs to be discused generally, which as Panda observed he does not, he can be discussed in the Knodgethread, although to be honest I would be happier using that for cheese gags.

If the board is to continue, my "future of humanity" thread invites suggestions on how *any* troll whose behaviour becomes deleterious to the board can be dealt with.

This thread is for discussing how Barbelith's demise possible is/should be perceived outside Barbelith.

Runce: Now, now. That's not going to bring down the emotional temperature, is it?

Perhaps we could get the guy who does the internet column in the Sunday Times Culture magazine's Doors section to roundly spank Andrew, and trolling in general, in public. He does lurk here occaisonally. Well, he's contacted me over something on the board, anyhoo.

To get back to (one of) the boy Fear's original points- ie what face we present to the world...

If it is the end:
I say we owe it to ourselves, not to mention the fact that we really fucking owe it to Tom, to be the most insightful, most intelligent, and yes, goddammit, most FUN we've ever been. People may be watching! And anyway, you wanna leave on a good memory.

And if it isn't the end... then that would still be a good thing, and may kick us up the arse to make that same effort in future.

Yr right, Tann. I am duly chastised.

Shutting the mouth now.

Moomin: yeah, true, but I sense we're scurrying around with one eye constantly to the heavens, waiting for the sky to fall. I just don't feel wildly amusing right now.

I guess it's been interesting reading our reviews, as it were. Other than the WEF and F2B, is anyone aware of 'Barbelith closing' fallout anywhere else?

G'waaan, stoke our egos...
