anyone seens this jodi-foster produced film about early teens in the seventies at a catholic school doing crazy things? features the girl from donnie darko; and a subplot based around the protagonist's comic book fantasies, in which his friends are all bizarre cartoon monsters rendered, in part, by ashley wood.

coming of age, drug use, dark teenage sex, tragedy, a bit sentimental. one thing it does nicely is get at the idea that comics and cartoons are about more than power fantasies... they are a fantastical representation of true emotional conflicts.

anyone?

I thought this was a great film. And not just because I was unreasonably afraid I'd be killed by a cougar when I was a little kid.

Very well acted. The animated bits didn't do so much for me, but they did have the unexpected effect of making the live action parts seem much more real to me. It was like they were so unreal, that the rest of the film felt like real life. Because of that the emotional stuff had more of an impact on my jaded soul than normal.

good flick. god bless the ingenuity of adolescent boys!
