Gaiman in London shock!

Yes its true, sometimes comic writer Neil Gaiman will be in London this week to plug his new book "Coraline".

As part of this we are invited to "an evening with Neil Gaiman" - apparently in the form of a reading from his new book and him chatting to Lizo Mzimba (from newsround).

This extravaganza will be occuring at the TUC centre on gt. russel st. thursday 22 August at 7pm with tickets priced at £4.

So, is anyone remotely interested? or is Gaiman's decision to charge money to make a sales sales pitch for his new book rather less than enticing?

So that's 'this week' as in three weeks time? Sounds interesting, and being a thursday I can make it. Is there a phone number for tickets or will you buy a ticket and I'll pay you back? Because I'm there.

Sir, I am quite interested.
He went to Sao Paulo last year on an autograph night of that book about the japanese legend of the lady that becomes a fox (sorry, forgot the name) and he was very, very sweet and patient (more than 2000 people came that night, and he was nice to every one). I'd really like to hear him, out of respect and curiosity, kinda. And because he made me cry a coupla times with Sandman.
So how's it gonna be?

Hey sleazy-sleaze, in your intro post you say Gaiman's coming this week, but then the dates are for later. Which is it? 'Cuz I'd like to come, if it's at a time in which I'm in the country...

I mean, is he coming to London twice? Or just the one time in August?

sleazenation
13:53 / 24.07.02
to clarify - gaiman, like christmas - comes just once a year and that time is August - the earier part of my post was a flyboy like assumption that it was this week.

If memory of certain movies serves me correctly, sometimes Christmas comes more than once a year...

but i digress...

Me and my friend Vicki have a number of questions to ask Neil Gaiman mostly about other people who he knows. So - ohmygod - I am so so interested. It's been 5 years since I last saw the man after all, that's quite a long time, I guess.

i've heard that the man is a real delicious meal for the ears when it comes to talk about what inhabits him when her calliope is around his inspirations... and i agree with cherry-flavoured-bomb : x-mas is a lot more once a year, depending if you live in a turboreactor plane and go around earth in the good way.
for those of you who'll be there, enjoy, and grab some of his dreamy waves with you. we all need a few, i suppose.

God, that's the best description of NG I've ever seen, Sleaze, what is that number you've put up there, is it a box office or something because I tried it earlier and got no reply...

Arse, can't go. I'll be in Portugal between the 18th and the 28th.

And Lada, exactly, "Dream Hunters", that's the name of the book. Indeed it's beautiful, a very nice way of presenting a fairy tale.

What it was like?

It was all very school assembly-like. Mr G read a chapter or two from his new book and was then interviewed on stage. Most of the stuff he talked about was stuff that he has already talked about in interviews before, some interesting background on the genisis of coraline - how it was started as a story for one of his daughters and how she grew up before it was ultimately finished - it being a background project that he worked on when he was feeling bloked on other projects. There was even some amusing revelations about Mr G not meeting every deadline - but how in comics the writer has more motivation (guilt) that if he doesn't meet his deadline then it is impossible for the artist, inker and letterer to do so either.

then there was just time for 3 quick Qs from the audience before the signing queue began in ernest- t which point we exited towards the pub.

Though if you pressed me as to exactly what was discussed, other than Janina narrowly missing a life as a porn actress, I honestly couldn't tell you...
