For what it's worth, I did hear an interesting point from a journalist on the radio. He compared all this madness to the post-WWI Red Scare, the Japanese internment camps, and those wacky wiretaps of the Vietnam era; that is to say, things got very bad for civil liberties, and later returned to something approaching normalcy.
Not that I'm saying "Woohoo" for stripping of one's right to a lawyer, but it's at least something that might suggest the black trains aren't coming to take us all away.
(Bright sides are getting hard to come by, it's the best I could do.) |
