I hate how the love/hate duality manifests itself here on Barbelith over and over again in soap-operatic ways taking many guises and forms which all amount to people trying to mis/communicate with other people from a need to feel wanted and accepted.

No wait, I love that.

Oops, hatelovehatelovehatelovehatelove.

I'm confused, aren't you?

I'll be on the swings.

I'm not sure "love" is quite the right word, but I feel lovely schnoogly warm huggly things for:

Deva and Dead Pirate Crunchy, because I learn a lot from them. Likewise the much-lamented Rosa/Mister Disco, when ze's around.

Flyboy, because he reminds me of me when I was you- STOP HITTING ME! OW! OW!

Ierne, because I have an image of her as Joyce Grenfell for some reason. Don't ask me.

Mordant, because she has a LASER POKEMON HARP

Lurid, because he gets all apologetic and conciliatory after a huge barney, and as such invites huggles.

Kit Cat Club, because she is obsessed with early 20th Century school stories and as such rocks very hard.

Ganesh and Zocher because they are BarbeDad.

Lick My Plums, Bitch, who is not on Barbelith nearly enough anymore.

Blackbeltjones, without whom goreporking would still be an idle dream....

Pacha, because she is just about the coolest Brazilian Magicienne I have ever met, and has a great big huggly smile. And a visa! Yay!

Meme Buggerer, for his fine selection of quality shirts and being one of few people left on Earth I can talk about Curve with.

Cherry Bomb, because she is very good about me always launching into a tirade against Bush whenever I meet her as if she had somehow personally made him president.

Sleazenation, because nothing makes huggles better than a really dirty laugh.

Angel, who is again not around enough...

Darn it, huggles for everyone. Take my huggles.

Loving hug(gle)s to--

Pin--because you're giving me a zine! Neat!

Suds--because of Luna pads! Rock! because "we talked over noodles and coca-cola" and "me and josh shouted the lyrics to whats yr take on casavettees to each other. because that's what we do." Where are you? I haven't seen you about.

BitchieKittie--because I can now look faux bad-ass in the Bad Apple t-shirt you sent me. And because as batty as you can be, you give such wonderful and sensible advice.

D--'cause you get no huggles here. And you could use them.

Flux--because you're a generous mofo. And introduced me to things I'd never known. Like Pavement! (The rest of you can just speculate on how ignorant I've been.)

Zoom--because you're an earnest and sincere fella. And if huggles were currency, you're shop would be a success!

Haus--because you really are human.

Nick--because.

Alas--because of a mistake I made long ago.

Cherry Bomb--because you have no shame. And won't be shamed by Buffet-haters. (I consider myself neutral in the Buffet Battle.)

Loomis--because you made me laugh twice yesterday.

Grant--because of your great response to Imaging Director Mr. Smith.

And all the rest of you all, too.

The Apple-Picker
17:07 / 12.07.02
But to specify a few more....

Abigail Blue--because honey cakes sound wonderful! I would have lived in a honey cake-free world were it not for you.

Laurence something-or-other--because you could really use a hug I think.

Planet of Sound--because you also need one. All this battling must have wound you up.

Hmmm.

Oh!

Videodrome--'cause I like your blog and your writing.

Fridge--for discreet concern.

How could I forget!

Picasso Triggerfish--because I know who you really are. You ain't foolin' no one. And because you are a funny man. Not a funny little man. I mean humorous.

Flyboy--for those great links on the state of the music industry.

Hmmm. I'll probably have to specify more. But all the rest of you are free to my love n' hugs, too. If you want 'em.

I love HunterWolf because he gave Peter Milligan back to me after CERTAIN PEOPLE had made me think that Peter Milligan was going away.

17:44 / 12.07.02
I love Mordant because she made me the arch-nemesis of the Star-Nosed Mole, amongst her other fabulous qualities that outstrip my ability to type out in one sitting. Her blog-fu is mighty, too.

I love Lurid for being the *other* person on the board with empiricist leanings. And the fact the he is a fine thread-diplomat and a giant huggable bear...or at least he writes that way.

Both ZoCher and Ganesh conduct themselves with grace, wit, and care, like distilled, perfected Oscar Wildes. Without the syphillis, I hope.

Well, I love everybody else, but I don't have the words for the rest. Huggles to all.

I love so many people here, and with nary a use of pharmaceuticals to aid me.

expressionless: For being such an effortless mystic and a good laugh.

Jack the Bodiless: For forcing me to stare at those tight, tight pvc's

Flyboy: for your drunken slur that always put me at ease *hic*

Stoatie: I can't remember what for, but I am informed we had a good time. (Actually, despite all else, I think of you as a rock. A safe place.)

angel: for making me feel so welcome. thanks.

Meme Buggerer: for some really great, warm conversations.
(and the fishnet top. yum.)

Pacha: for being the first barbeloid I really met (and it was lovely) and for being the star of that night.

Kit-Kat Club: Warm and sharp and we can discuss shoes.

Rothkoid: So missed. My mind fogs over in a sea of huggles.

Ganesh: You pushed all my buttons at the outset. Leather, devils and subverting children's toy shops. A wonderful balance of wise, learned and slutty.

Zocher: I know that everyone says this, but you are the comfortable father figure that warms my heart.

Haus: I have never seen someone be sooo catty and sooo acute at the same time. I love the fact that you don't bully, even though you could. You are a really lovely bloke.

Monkey: For being sensitive and mind blowingly erudite and incisive all at the same time. I feel my mind expanding every time I read you. I want more Monkey posts. *big bear hugs*

Lothar Tuppan: I really miss him. And so does the board...

Ierne: For being warm, open and a good friend. You've made me feel like cultures can be crossed and have always been entirely supportive. I can't express how cool I think you are.

Mordant: You are the most wonderful person I have ever met. I love you.

To everyone I have forgotten, I love you too.

That was absolutely fucking beautiful. However, I note that everyone else gets life-affirming messages of lurve regarding their warming personal qualities, but I'm simply informed that I look good in tight placky troosers. This, I'm thinking, may well be the story of my life. But cheers, Lurid...

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
14:13 / 13.07.02
Hey, I get an unmemorable drunken night. Makes sense I suppose. Lurid rocks though, as do JtB, sfd, Mordant, Rothkoid (England just got less fun), Barry Auckland (England just got even less fun), and a whole bunch of other people. In fact, it'd be easier to list the people I DON'T like. But I ain't gonna do that... it'd be wrong.
Oh, and a special mention to Lilith Myth, for exposing HIrself to a whole shitstorm in actually disagreeing with what the majority of people (myself included) were saying in the Switchboard. And thus provoking debate, rather than a bunch of liberal handwringing (as a confirmed liberal handwringer myself, I'm obviously not casting nasturtiums or even aspersions at anyone here.)
I'm posting this now, before I get all Paltrow on yo' collective asses.

Jack The Bodiless

I love stoatman. He likes Good Music, and has cool hair, and, like Flyboy, reminds me of JtB with all the shit bits taken out.

JtB: You underestimate the strength of Lurid's feelings towards tight PVC trousers.

The Return Of Rothkoid
03:28 / 14.07.02
Kit-Cat Club: Because she r0x0rs. And forgives me my puns and my inherent shittiness. And because I'll see her again sometime soon, I trust.

Jack the Bodiless: 'cause he's stopped me visiting bodily harm upon people, wears trou enviably - as already noted, and because he honestly gives a shit. And because he and Miss Spooky've come up to visit so often, and without any hesitation - s'all good.

Expressionless: For being a percussive spirit-filled man-o-god, and unashamed about his questioning. Rock. And for kicking nine kinds of musical ass. Also for being one of the calmest people I've ever met.

Wembley: for the hair, the shared love of Cora's, and the wilful arsing-about. And for propping me up, when needed.

Loomis: for the old times, and for sticking around. And for all the other matey bits. And especially for the Toohey's Old.

Videodrome: for being one of the best things to come out of this world of zeros and ones. Because he's spur-of-the-moment enough to consider jumping a plane to a party. Because he's one of the finest gentlemen I've ever met.

Lurid Archive and Mordant C@rnival: for being two of the scariest, yet most lovely and caring people on this dusty globe. The honesty that's there is amazing, and is only topped by their shared love for their friends. Special, special stuff. And such fucking ace outfits!

Ganesh and Zocher: the Hindu god and the dynastic ruler - how could you go wrong? Suave, intelligent and solid drinkers: I would be proud to stimulate my liver and my intellect with them any time. Get over here, already.

Ierne: for patience under fire and for the ability to make me believe that one day I'll be a Cartier-Bresson instead of a Fisher-Price.

Cavatina: For keeping the lines open, for many kinds of support, and because the writing ze does is far better than anything I can muster.

Lillith Myth: For the kabbalah-fu and endless cheering.

SFD: for cups of tea, a level head, musical inspiration and strength. And for being lovely in general - and for braving the Auld Shillelagh when nobody else was around.

Stoatie: 'cos he's the most upright-haired motherfucker around. Because he's always up for a drink. And because he doesn't censor his feelings.

Flyboy: for his farewell honesty and desire to to the right thing.

Haus: for his inimitable bastardry. The comment-tag king.

That's a start. There's more. Oh yes. If you're not here, assume you're loved anyway.

ZoCher could not be here tonight to acknowledge your encomia in person, but he has sent his fridge. (Smeg appliance murmurs thanks as copious and sincere tears leak through the seal.)

Can't quite get into this incestuous (BarbeDad - hohoho!) name-checking vibe but there are several of you who will be invited to the great London Homecoming when Ganesh and I finally get a place of our own here and several of those will be locked in the dungeon and kept there for our intellectual (and other) amusement 24/7, because of your general loveliness.

I've only met a few of you in fleshly mode but the prospective dungeon's full up already, without even considering the transatlantic contingent. So tempted to start a list but I'd only leave someone off the end and immediately regret it, so Bless You All, My Children.
(Want to see some puppies?)

OH yes, lots of huggles for the Southampton posse for being lovelies. And Invisible_Al for demonstrating that an interest in role-playing games does not necessarily have to entail being a 10th-level Sociopath from the Northern Wastes of Fatbyrdja. And Ariadne who, although no larger than a peppercorn, his the wit of a mustard seed.

Oh, and Ellis for providing a nearby point of visual focus during the precipitous viewing of the Bacchae and thus preventing me from hurtling off the circle to the orchestra below. And Pin for being Zoe Passmore. Yay Zoey!

08:40 / 15.07.02
Rothkoid for introducing me to Houston, and the woman I love. KKC, Haus, Kooky and sleaze for knowing everything worth knowing about everything worth reading. Everyone in the Magick for continuing to feed my head. Meme B. for mangosistance and wild conversational trippings each and every time. exp for wailing on the drums and being all wide-eyed about all the best music. Jack the B for similar conversational Wildeness and, of course, copious quantities of Jack the D. and... everyone who still remembers who the hell I am when I turn up to the meets (lots of lurking, little posting, but I'm still here.)

Love to all the UK crowd who took me in and gave me loads of fun and beer and companionship for 4 fun months, especially Stoatie who gave me a place to stay. Ah, I miss good ol' Stoke Newington already.
