there's an exciting looking event coming up in london (conway hall, holborn) on october 12. organised by '3rd stone' magazine, in conjunction with strange attractor, it's a celebration of 5000 years of stone circles and sacred sites in britain - the folklore and architecture. the event is an all-dayer, with evening performances by coil, among others. tix are £20.00. www.strangeattractor.co.uk will give you the details. it's quite expensive, but i think i could learn a lot from this, so i'll probably go.

God, if I lived in the UK I would travel and pay that much just to see Coil.
Is Julian Cope playing as well?

cope's not playing, as far as i am aware. there are a lot of speakers and suchlike - the site is at www.strangeattractor.co.uk if you want to check it out. one thing has rather been bugging me about this, though - everybody involved in this is male. wonder if it's a bit of an old boys' network. i'm still very interested in going, but am i likely to be the only woman there?

do you have the book 'the modern antiquarian' by cope? if you don't, there's a website (www.themodernantiquarian.com) which has reports on sacred sites filed by all sorts of people, with some great photos.

SFD writes do you have the book 'the modern antiquarian' by cope?

I have a copy of that! Tremendous book, makes me want to weep that I'm a continent and an ocean away from the British Isles. And I very envious that you're going to get to attend this event: it sounds great!

I really wish we had remnants of megalithic culture here in California. I may have to create some...

(On a vaguely related note, anyone else familiar with Marco Pogacnik or the work he is doing with "lithopuncture"?)

There may not be megaliths out west, but there are certainly petroglyphs and other stuff not far from you...

I wish I had that book. I've seen a copy but it's quite expensive.
On a related and goofily self-repetitive note, I'm, erm, interviewing Julian Cope by email right now. Anybody have any questions for him?

nice one, suitcased boy! i've always wondered how 'the modern antiquarian' was recieved by the establishment, archeology-wise. it's written in a totally different way to most other related stuff i've read, i.e. down to earth, passionate, accessible, colourful (to look at and otherwise!). he's probably been asked it before, but i wondered if he had rocked any boats with the rather chin-stroking establishment.

I think you'll find Leslie Ellen Jones id's as female.

Presumably not if she's going to be there.

ah, thanks for that bill - 'leslie' is the male spelling of the name, 'lesley' is the female. so i assumed ze was male.

unfortunately i think i'll have to give the event a miss now - had to re-distribute some of my wealth to a friend in need. if anyone else goes, would love to hear a report.

As yet I haven't got a ticket. Some people have said there is a possibility of daytime and evening tickets on the door, so I am gonna give that a try. If I get in, maybe see some of ya's there...
