CAPED CRUSADERS ALL SET TO CLASH
Superheroes Batman and Superman are set to go head to head in a new movie.
WOLFGANG PETERSEN, who made The Perfect Storm starring GEORGE CLOONEY, will direct Batman vs. Superman for Warner Brothers Pictures.
The film, due to be released in 2004, will feature the two superheroes as allies who come to blows over what Petersen describes as differing philosophies.
"It is a clash of the titans," Petersen tells US trade newspaper Variety. "They play off of each other so perfectly.
"Superman is clear, bright, all that is noble and good, and Batman represents the dark, obsessive and vengeful side. They are two sides of the same coin and that is material for great drama."
The project will not be continuations of the previous Batman and Superman films and neither of superheroes has yet been cast. Petersen says he is seeking actors who can offer complex emotions as well as brawn.
"Everything after September 11 is different," he says. "You want to change the image of these superheroes." |
