Rent-boy twosome hump hungry pussies around London

Well... it's looking like my Kitsch Dyke Landlady and her waif girlfriend will be returning from South Africa in October, and I'll have to vacate the premises in Willesden Green.

ZoCher will be moving to London around the same time. We'll either be selling or have sold the Edinburgh flat - so the pair of us, our two cats and (very likely) our myriad dodgy ethnic trinkets will be officially homeless.

Our plan, such as it is, is to rent somewhere central-ish over the winter while the profit from the Edinburgh flat sits in a high-interest account somewhere. If the property market then obligingly crashes (which would be nice), we'll look around for somewhere to buy.

Biggest problem is likely to be our cats; I gather there're very few rentable properties which accept pets. Plan B is that I find somewhere (my mother's, maybe) for them to stay until we can reclaim them.

Can anyone more London-savvy advise on the 'doability' of any of this?

YOU'RE GOING TO WHAT??? Well, you boys are in for a shock...

Naah, not really- plans sound quite straightforward. We've kept a cat in a 'no pets' rented flat for over a year, relying on the old "we're looking after it for a friend" excuse whenever there's an inspection, and nary an eyebrow has been raised in suspicion.
Depending on your circumstances, I wouldn't overlook nice further-out places. As long as it's near a tube, it's still pretty easy to get where you want. I've managed to exist in the wind-whipped environs of zone 3 for a couple of years and found the cheap-ish rent (I pay £320 per month) and general quietness to my liking. Only problem is if a cab home is really needed- it's about £25-ouch!

I'd agree with Meme, I live in the areas of zone 3 too, about 2 mins walk from a Piccadilly station. Its nice up here you know
Taxi's yes are a bit more expensive, but there are buses from the centre you can get too.
We've got a garden so we pay a bit more, nice for cats though...

and yeah, it's about 20mins on the tube to Camden, a little more to the west end. It's a bit starved of certain amenities like a decent video shop and things, but is noticeably more tranquil than C London and having a garden is more of an option further out, as IFS says.

Well, at the moment, we're paying £6-700 per month for a nice (but rather cramped) 2-bedroom garden flat in Willesden Green. I could probably live with a little extra travelling time if there's that much rent difference...

Can't recommend Cricklewood enough. It's slightly cheaper than Willesden Green, and on the British Rail into KX in 12 mins. And there's loads of flats to rent, I think. One beds are around £100+/wk, so £400ish/month. check out those asserta people (I think I may have been an estate agent in a previous life, it's embarassing, I know).

i would totally recommend a couple of letting agencies to avoid at all costs: outlet and homes direct. both focus on the gay 'market' and are basically rip off merchants. if you want to head east, homerton and clapton are still less-than-outrageously-priced (comparatively), although the areas are not the nicest and there's no tube. or try leyton or wood green - both a little further out, but on the tube. stoke newington is really nice and has plenty of queers around, but i'm not sure how affordable it is.

Yeah, I used to live in Leyton. It's not too bad. You might also consider Walthamstow, which has a good market and is handy for the tube if nothing else.

just be careful if you go live in e17/walthamstow - don't mess with it. or you'll have that whiny brian harvey bloke banging on your front door.

As of tomorrow, I'll live in Leytonstone - fab place, it is. Nice neighbours.
It's only half an hour on the tube to Oxford Circus. I don't know about rents, but I bought there because it was cheap, so rent can't be too bad.
