So, say there's this wannabe hackette, right? (We'll just call her Merdant Cornival.) And say she was almost done writing an article for a webzine which she was hoping (should it be accepted) to refer to on her CV.

Now, say that Merdant Cornival also had a weblog which had recently earned her a few death threats from passing imbeciles. This, among other things, is making her a bit skittish about the idea of revealing her real name online at the moment, even for the sake of a nice juicy slice of CV-boosting visibility.

Would prospective publishers (magazine/webzine) be happy with a "writing as..." reference? Or do they need something more substantial than a psedonym?

I've little experience with online writing, but with published material it's perfectly permissible to use a pseudonym, and to then accredit yourself on your CV (just as long as whoever you're trying to impress with the CV can be assured that it's you). When I published some poetry in a small local magazine a few years back I used a pseudonym as at the time I really didn't want - for a number of reasons - to have the work connected to me. When I started putting it on my CV, I contacted the editor who confirmed that if anyone checked with him in connection with my CV, he'd happily confirm that I'd contributed the pieces. I seriously doubt whether anybody has ever bothered to check up on it, but it looks good on the CV

Could you please post a link to the weblog? I'm curious about any writing that leads to death threats.

Here ya go, but don't get too exited. According to the person or persons making the threats, I am to die because I'm a "HOMOSEXUAL!" (Yeah, news to me too...)

Yeah, it looks pretty tame. Maybe you were threatened for not being offensive enough while on the internet?

Tame? TAME??? I'm edgy, dammit. Edgy and dangerous. Will people never learn?

Uh, I trust you did the appropriate 'forward email to ISP' thing, and possibly the coppers as well? Death threat = not funny, obviously.

Unfortunately the tagboard where said comment was left doesn't show IP numbers. But I have a trick or two up my sleeve if this chap comes back.

Sorry, I meant tame in an edgy and dangerous sort of way.
