Violent Messiahs: Book of Job

I just picked this one up a few days ago, and I'm totally hooked. Book of Job is the TPB compilation of the eight issues of Violent Messiahs which have been published to date.

From the back-cover blurb: "Welcome to Rankor City, a carnival of social ills. Into this wasteland come two men, saviors for a nihilistic age, the serial killer "Family Man" and the hyper-violent vigilante "Citizen Pain". Lieutenant Cheri Major, an outcast among her peers, must follow the clues into the heart of a great house where a mysterious door hides the truth...to everything.

The story by Joshua Dysart is very cool, extremely dark. Tone Rodriquez's pencilling is awesome, as is Travis Smith's coloring. The artwork is simply amazing throughout. Lots of unanswered questions and hanging threads at the end of the arc. I'm wondering if there's going to be more.

If King Mob were a nine-foot tall semi-psychotic mutant, he might be Citizen Pain.

Check out the comic, and the official website here...

Anyone else reading this book?

I've met Dysart and Rodriguez and they are very very cool. Very down to earth guys. As far as the comic goes, some of it is pretty cliche. Some of it it a bit too much like an issue of Spawn. But at other times, there is some really great writing. Dysart is getting better and better from the few issues I've read. I've not read all 8 in order. Maybe I should check out the tpb.

I have all the issues, but will pick up the TPB because i have no idea where ALL the issues are in my house.
Tone is an extremely cool guy, I have a couple of sketches he did for me of Batman and Alan Scott.
This is a good title, the witing did get better issue by issue and the story line really pulled me in, the only drawback was the spread out release (i think it was over a year for the 8 isuues).

By the way, there's a new four-issue arc of Violent Messiahs, titled Lamenting Pain, and starting in September.

According to Image Comics' description, "Street gangs prowl the night, riots break out constantly, and the mayor is talking about marshal [sic]law. Amidst all of this, Citizen Pain has disappeared from Rankor Island, and in his absence, a new vigilante is striking, leaving her victims horribly mutilated with a single word carved into their corpses: Scalpel."

Dysart and Rodriguez will be writing and pencilling this arc as well.
