Obviously not, since they're all too busy posting to the idiotic and pointless Osama Bin London thread.

But seriously, I share your concerns. I'm putting my thoughts together and will respond tommorrow when my brain is a bit less soaked in cheap gin.

These cards seem to be for immigrants, not American nationals. Basically, it's simply an improved means of keeping track of foriegn nationals who are in the United States. There are far more frightening anti-terrorist bills floating around than this, I would imagine.

well then would anyone care to discuss them? i keep hearing vague notions of terrifying bills, but i havent heard a single example from anyone and something specifically from the text of the bills. all i keep reading when i try to look through them are "motion to declare spet 11th patriot day" and a lot of other crap. there's gotta be someone here who's able to wrap their heads around this stuff, no?

because honestly, if we can't figure out what it is they're doing out in the open, we may as fucking well just turn ourselves in to the dissident camp from now.

Its not just anti terrorism bills (which have been pretty scarey and draconian for some time now- the old not-joke used to be in the UK you were innocent until proven irish) The asylum legislation is being changed so that any refugees coming in will be forced to carry id cards-- sounds like the creeping path to id cards for all- regardless of the lack of effectiness an ability to be misused by a police that is still recognised as being 'institutionally racist'

ID Cards issued by the government? You mean like Social Security, Driver's Liscence, Green Card, etc. They've been around for quite a long time, why are these any different?

Ah, friend,

that's where you're wrong.

But I do wish we'd talk about it a bit more.
