Wanna help me find a PAL, hopefully quite cheap, copy?

I might let you discuss it. But only if you find it for me.

I would pay in blood for a copy of this.

I actually bought a copy in America, but of course, it doesn't work in this country. You can look at the pretty pictures on the box though if you like.

I know a house that has one. I saw it once.

Shall we burgle them?

You can find places that'll transfer NTSC (american system) tapes to PAL (UK/European system) ones. That'll let you do more than looking at the pretty pictures on the box, plus you can run off copies for your friends and make yourself very very popular.

I wish I could help - I have a copy in the US formatting. I think that movie changed my life...I saw it for the first time when I was 13, and it pretty much shaped my notion of cool, I had never seen people like that before. That film is very special, very funny, and has some wonderful performances in it.

Here's a hint: I know that they are planning on rereleasing 1991: The Year Punk Broke sometime over the next few years on DVD, probably with a lot of bonus footage and such. It wouldn't shock me if they added in all of the music videos on the Goo and Screaming Fields videos, too. Even if it comes out only in the US, you can probably still play it on yr computer, because there are plenty of programs for computers that allow you to play DVDs from any region.

The contents include loads of footage of Sonic Youth (and occasionally Nirvana and other friends) goofing around, doing silly things, cracking in-jokes, attempting to confuse European journalists on the European tour for Goo. A lot of this footage is fucking hilarious.

There are several complete performances of songs by Sonic Youth, Nirvana, plus other bands on tour with them. These are the songs contained in the film:

01. Sonic Youth - Schizophrenia
02. Nirvana - Negative Creep
03. Sonic Youth - Brother James
04. Nirvana - School
05. Sonic Youth - Teenage Riot
06. Dinosaur Jr. - Freak Scene
07. Babes In Toyland - Dustcake Boy
08. Sonic Youth - Dirty Boots
09. Nirvana - Endless, Nameless
10. Sonic Youth - I Love Her All The Time
11. Gumball - Pre
12. Dinosaur Jr. - The Wagon
13. Sonic Youth - Mote
14. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
15. The Ramones - Commando
16. Sonic Youth - Kool Thing
17. Nirvana - Polly
18. Sonic Youth - Expressway To Yr Skull

It's interesting to see Nirvana before they get famous - Kurt smiles, laughs, and cracks jokes a lot more than he does in footage post-Nevermind. There are some amazing SY performances captured in this film, most notably "I Love Her All The Time" and "Brother James".

Dunno where you might find '1991: the year Sonic Youth decided to cash in on Nirvana's success' (which, in all fairness, was something they totally deserved to do - having laid much of the goundwork), but it seems that exorbitantly overpriced copies of the far superior 'put blood in the music' are floating about out there...

i would if i was you. it's so cool and fun to watch. it's better than buying ceedees, in my personal opinion. but then i was a grunge fanatic. and i like seeing dave grohl make jokes about grapes and other food products.

just borrowed the vid from a friend after reading this thread. it must have somehow passed me by back in '91. and i have to go against the grain here and say that it was pretty average and disappointing after what i've been reading in this thread. i also found thurston moore to be incredibly irritating! whereas i have new-found respect for kim gordon who was the epitome of kool throughout. it was also really good to see a happy kurt and a virtually unknown courtney love. admittedly, the music does rock.
