...it's also not a bad practice to have the link open in an new window as opposed to the current one. Use this addition in the link code, with < > to replace [ ].

[a href="http://www.barbelith.com/underground" target=_blank]Barbelith[/a]

Could I ask that people try and use quotes whenever appropriate, even when not strictly necessary - ie. target="_blank". Thanks...

Sorry, Tom, I don't understand the quotes thing.

Oh, and do html tags work in PMs now? They didn't initially.

Tom, why the importance of making sure that we use the quotes?

Without the quote marks, something about some of the pages makes the thread go all squiffy. What's worse, though, is having an opening quote without a closing quote. That makes for some really strange visuals, maaaan.

Can I make a request that people not have links opening in new windows?

The reason is quite simple: with pretty much every browser, you can right-click and open a link in a new window if you want to, or not if you don't want to. This is not the case if there is a target="_blank" - you have to open in a new window. It thus reduces the amount of choice people have, particularly if they're forced to use IE at work (so can't use tabs) and don't want to have large numbers of windows on their taskbar in case the boss walks by.
