bearing in mind a fair few barbefolk are interested in footie, i feel quite justified in plugging my mate's book on it. the title (as above) is fairly unexciting, but it's a funny and irreverent look at the teams, the history of the cup and loads of quiz questions. lloyd pettiford usually writes chin stroking and extremely expensive books about central american politics, but he also knows his footie, despite being a southampton fan.
i quote: "although stiles never became known as 'small nob stiles' for some reason, 6ft 2in jack charlton did become 'big jack charlton'. in fact he almost became 'pig jack charlton' but the offer of a job with the police arrived just a day after he had already committed himself to leeds....". you get the picture. meticulously researched and bashed out in three weeks, it's a worthy tome to add to your collection. and it's cheap - about 4 quid, from wh smiths. no slash, though.
two other blokes are credited on the cover (david harding and frank nicklin) but they don't matter because i don't know them. |
