Israel's Arabs Find Revolution in Rap

Above a gut-punching beat, four Arab rappers unleash a volley of angst-ridden rhymes that tell of life in the grim boroughs of Israel's Arab neighborhoods — bleak landscapes of poverty, drugs, crime and discrimination.

[...]

Rap music, born of inner-city poverty and the battle of black Americans for equal rights, has become a new weapon of sorts for the increasingly embittered younger generation among Israel's 1.2 million Arabs

so how can i hear this stuff?

I'll bet that local music shops in predominantly Arabic neighborhoods might have tapes. If you're in NYC, I would suggest going to the Court Street/Atlantic Avenue section of downtown Brooklyn. A good friend of mine teaches ESL over in Jackson Heights (Queens) and she's picked up some wicked Pakistani hip-hop mixtapes & CDs from a music store there...I asked her if they sold pan-Arabic music or strictly South Asian, and she said she'd ask the owner.

I love the ultra-important, hot-off-the-presses stories at the bottom:

"More from > Entertainment - AP
Prev. Story: `The Price Is Right' Takes CBS to Top
Tue Jun 25, 1:48 PM ET - (AP)
Next Story: Beetle Bailey To Get New Character
Tue Jun 25, 2:41 PM ET - (AP)"

But to bring this back on subject, I don't know where you can find this in the US. Ierne: I think Mystery Gypt is on the west coast (LA if memory serves). I'm guessing there has to be some web radio somewhere on the net for this, but I couoldn't tell you where.

I thought MG was bicoastal – sometimes in NY, sometimes in LA (or SF???).

But now he's got me curious to hear this too, so I'm going to ask around!!!
