Shifting society

I want to prove that mainstream society has become lazy, apathetic, selfish and demanding.

Any on line leads?

Thank you.

So, you want to prove that people only think about what they want and want other people to do all the work for them?

Try here.

Very good Haus.

Can you dial up your altruism a little and have a think ...

Sauron the Dark Lord in "Can't we all make the world a better place?" shock!

Seriously, N...I mean Black-Master-of-the-Unyielding-Gaze, I'm sorry but I just can't think of anywhere remotely unpleasant and misanthropic to send your delicate, incorporeal e-body. Forgive me.

So yr hiatus from the world of advertising has served only to fill you w/ even more Scaatchi & Scaatchi related bile? Cheer up, man....get a nice, earthy, rustic job as a pig farmer. It's good, honest, hands-on work.... Get out there in the country air! Whatever you do, stop soaking in the Orange, "I can be at my desk even when I'm on the train", ads - they'll suck yr soul dry.

Get out of London.

Perhaps the reason nobody is providing an answer is that you haven't really asked the right question yet. Apathetic, Selfish....if that's as specific as your remit goes, you may as well just cut out the editorial columns of the last twenty weeks of the Daily Mail and make a collage.

I think you need to hone.

I'll risk trying to answer this thread in the way I think it was intended:

You could argue that the satirical style of a lot of The Onion's articles reflect the current attitudes of society. While toungue-in-cheek and therefore difficult to justify, I do believe you could argue the case. Alternatively, I'd suggest looking at forums or bulletin boards where people can voice their opinions on things like government policy, or customer support issues. And Haus' suggestion (minus the collage and going home bit) is actually a pretty good one: Editorial columns.

Get a video clip of those whingeing cunts off of big brother sitting around on sofas and demanding more fags and magazines.

This better not be for a pitch...

Sauron: I tried to find some formal studies on this general topic, but drew a blank. Maybe if you could give us a clearer idea of what you're looking for...?

Don't know if this is on the right lines, Sauron, but it's a workshop programme from
Teaching for a Sustainable World: International Edition
which deals with how the lazy, apathetic, selfish and demanding attitudes and behaviour of mainstream society are screwing up the planet, with examples.

i'm not sure i buy the implied argument that there is some demonstrable time when this wasn't the case; it's clearly on your shoulders to supply contrapositive evidence to this point.

Lyra: "This better not be for a pitch... "

Exactly what I was thinking. Listen, Dark Lord, if this is for one of those "anti-ad" brands I'm gonna slap yr face. Out of interest did anyone see that doc the other day, about those twats from that new, trendy, anti-ad ad/promo firm waffling about how "kids are sick of the endless ream of adverts these days....we provide an alternative..." and hanging out at "street" music festivals and generally being all COOL london. I really want to call them c****....PLEASE LET ME! I don't want to call them "nob-cheeses", "fuckarses" or get creative.....I need a really offensive word to describe them......they pissed me off so much.

Thank you All.

It's not anti ad, its about the importance of cut through.

I just need examples to prove apathy and laziness flipped with selfishness and demanding attitudes.

eg. 'I want it all at my finger tips, but I'm not prepared to wrok for it.'

I want the examples to be quite general eg. Apathy - one in five active voters have disappeared since 1992. etc.

Hopefully it will mean there is shit polluting your airwaves so it is for a good cause.

Apologies if I'm still being vague.

What was that, sonny? "Cut Through"? Eh?

Somebody help me out here.....

Sauron, has anyone ever actually told you that you are EVIL?

"Cut through", also "cut-through".

The belief that the "noise" generated by our media-saturated age is blinding people from receiving the messages they need, and thus that a successful brand/campaign/request for sexual favours has to be able to "cut through" the chaff. Used by media planners to justify larger campaigns, creatives to justify larger production budgets, marketeers to justify viral marketing campaigns, and account managers to justify lengthy junkets to Bangkok to show clients how "cut through" is achieved in exotic locations.

Well, I think he's cute.

Sauron - one of mine, and please do. Meanwhile...hoom. I think I see more of what you're looking for, but not sure where the statistics would be...electoral roll? It's one of those things that are quite hard to back up with concrete statements - possibly govt. fitness campaigns (used to be at www.walkforlife.co.uk, I think) will give you stats on our increasingly sedentary lifestyles - also might be worth looking at car usage over short distances, charitable donations and the fluctuation of gifts to good causes before and after the National Lottery (people have to be offered an incentive even to give money to charity), the chance of any one person on a bus having taken a first-aid course - government campaigns again.

I love the charity examples- that's the sort of thing I'm after- National Lottery is a great insight.

I suppose I mean lazy mentally rather than physically (stems from the same place I suppose), but it's more about a desire to have infomation and entertainemnt brought to you rather than seeking it.

I think you're cute too. Huggles.
