Anyone tried Mozilla 1.0?

Given the fact that IE crashes far too regularly and I'm sick to death of pop-up ads, I was hoping for some reviews of Mozilla 1.0.

I'm almost desperate enough at this point to shell out the bucks for Opera (I've used the ad banner freeware version. It sucks on a 56k dialup.)

Depending on how much grunt your PC's got, I'd suggest Mozilla all the way. I've only used 0.9 - waiting until I reformat until I install 1.0 - but found it much better than IE/Opera. Of course, it's rather anal about CSS compliance, but other than that, I prefer it: the tabbed view option is godlike. ANd it's fast...

I'm on 1.0 RC1, which has since been superceded, and it's superb. Really, really superb. Fast, compliant, anthing which doesn't work is clearly badly programmed (though I still have to fire up IE to check it). Good shit. And small. Download it now!

Yes, I agree, download it. Now. 1.0 is much better than 1.0RC1,2 or 3, and is almost as good a release as 0.9.8 if you ask me.

I can see Mozilla releases becoming like vintage wines, with the complexities of their bug-tracking, feature-eating all-singing version control system maturing the juices.

Now for a little more of the 1.2RC42.A...

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a trog in matters computery, but I hope a redeemable one. I've just downloaded Mozilla - primarily for its pop-up killing properties - and all seems fine and dandy, cept it seems to squash web-pages in new and unusual ways. Frinstance, at the top of this page, '[edit profile]' and '[log out]' are no longer within the box that tells me that I'm logged in as Smoothly Weaving and that I'm a Member (snigger), and are instead hanging by the 'i's, 'l's, 'd's and 't's to the bottom edge.
This is a distressing development for all concerned, as I'm sure you can appreciate.

Doctor, is this normal?

Also, are there any other advantages over IE I should be revelling in? The tabs, for instance - are they different from having a number of IE windows open along the bottom task bar?

Forgive my ignorance, my opening sentence is my only defence.

Hmmm not much more to add apart from it's never crashed on me in just about a year using it. And it shouldn't mess with how Barbelith displays as it's pretty much fully CSS1 compliant. Will check when I get home but there may be something else going on there.
Oh and pity me, I'm using IE 4.0 on a computer that hasn't been upgraded since the early triassic period .

Cheers al.
I've never really had a problem with IE crashing, but pop-ups make me foam at the mouth. As far as I can tell - and bearing in mind that I've only had it installed for a couple of hours - you can't have pop-ups killed on detection, and instead have to apply the ban on a site by site basis. In that sense the FAQ doesn't tally with the options you actually get on 1.3. It's quite possible that I'm missing something though. I need to play around some more.

The alignment thing is a puzzle. And it does seem to exhibit some random craziness - shoving pages over to the left hand edge one moment, then shunting them back to the middle the next. There's something kinda human about that though - as if it's finding its feet, like its user.

I've been using Mozilla for about six months now. I like it a lot. I never realized how much IE sucked until I started using it.

Go for it.

You can kill all pop-ups. It's in the Preferences... somewhere...

You might also want to try Mozilla Firebird, though that still hasn't reached 1.0.

Another reason not to use IE is the fact that it's a big useless bastard when it comes to security.

To get rid of pop ups in Mozilla, this is what you have to do:

1) Go to Edit

2) Go to Preferences

3) Go to Privacy & Security

4) Go to Popup Windows

5) Click on Supress Popups

6) Click on Exceptions

7) Write in the URLS of websites which you want to allow popups, if you want.

Thanks Fridge. And thanks Flux. I'll try that when I get home. Stuck with IE here at work. It feels so ordinary.

It seems I've always been a bit conservative and cautious about what I do to my computer. The idea that there are great apps out there for free is giving me a little frisson of exciting possibilities. Is there a thread detailing the groovy things Barbeloids add to make their computers less...um...vanilla?
