This is just so fubar it's almost incredible. Not in an amazing or astounding way, but I mean not believable. The long & the short of this is that William Manalastas, an engineer origionally from the Philippines, got on this Absconder Apprehension Initiative Program list through a series of snowjobs & cock-ups. As a result, he's in jail since March and his family have to sell everything they own in order to buy tickets to go back to the Philippines. In fact, none of the family members are allowed to work and they're literally living on handouts.
More on Manalastas's story here and Manalastas's family's webpage w/ online petition. Normally I don't deal with online petitions and the like, but this just seems like such a egregious injustice that I thought y'all might wanna know.
Anybody else heard of this case or this program? This is the first I've heard of either and, well, it's pretty fucking scary. |
