For what it's worth, Z, I too was the only one at work myself for a loooong time this morning.

(Oh and I will be getting back to your PM mister man!)

Oh wait sorry thought you were the only one there, Z .

Just out of curiosity do you work in some sort of Brazilian enclave?

The poor lone Brazilian brave enough to attend class today stealthily wore a football jersey from a small team in Brazil, thus enabling himself to support Brazil without having his ass kicked. Clever.

No, CB, but I work with Scots (all apart from one chirpy Scouser who sensibly chose to watch the footie at home with her girlfriend before coming to work) and in Scotland it is de rigeur to support whichever team is likely to beat the English. I am a social pariah because of my fondness for Erikson's Eleven.

This phenomenon can be verified by checking the Bear's recent postings. Despite being exiled to London, he is in tune with the pulse of our mutual motherland... Up here they're rejoicing.

I defy anyone to remain unmoved by the sight of 'Safe Hands' choking back the tears and biting his gloves... There's something incredibly likeable about Seaman, and so to see him so clearly blaming himself made me quite distraught...

For the good of American soccer, the U.S. team would certainly be expected to do everything in its power to continue its magical run.

For the good of the world, the U.S. team should take a dive.

Yes, it already has become clear that Europe, Asia and parts of the Americas simply can't handle the new-found success of the U.S.

"It hurt us here," said one Mexican soccer fan, punching his chest, after the U.S. victory. "There has to be an end to this disgrace where (Americans) treat us like rats."

As usual, TV Go Home sums it up nicely for me...

Are you sure that Seaman was crying? Maybe his ponytail grease was dripping down his forehead.

I'm with Riz. It's pretty funny seeing people get upset about this. Cheers me up no end.

Flyboy, I am unmoved. Horribly unmoved. I can't understand it, it leaves me cold, I'm glad it's over just so people will stop fucking talking about it.

That is all.

i was considering going to william hill and seeing if they'd let me place a bet as to which small town will get trashed first tonight as compensation for being out of the world cup. i'd would've bet on high wycombe. it's always high wycombe.

Meme won a Sweden t-shirt from a company, and after the game I went out on the streets here in the neighbouthood with it, coz it was the nearest thing I had to a brazillian uniform (yellow). Two or three people said Brazil deserved to win, and I suffered no hostility at all.

The good thing was seeing there are many more brazilians around than I thought, all those yellow shirts around. I'm afraid, though, that wearing "brazil" branded t-shirts is fashion in London (I've enquired four people with the outfit about their nationality, and it turned out none was brazilian. Go figure.)

Aaanyway, sorry, guys. Was a great game, nonetheless.

South Korea just lost to Germany 1-0. I was kinda rooting for them because they seemed like such an underdog team. Moreover, McDonald's had a "red card" promotion whereby you get a card with your meal. If the team on your card wins the world cup you win a luxury holiday. Supposedly, there were loads of cards with "South Korea" so if the S.Koreans would've won, McDonalds would've had to fork out for loads of luxury holidays. In short: Ronald McDonald has got the fix in on the World Cup.

Fix? You should worry - I organised the office sweepstake and got Germany. My missus got Brazil. Now everyone's looking at us funny.

And as for all the people that thought there was going to be loads of trouble after England lost, I'm sorry to disappoint anyone, but nothing happened. Football fans can behave themselves - just because you have no (or very little) hair and like footy (i.e me), it doesn't mean you're a thug.
The majority are fine but there's a minority that get you a bad reputation. So bollocks.

I thought I'd just take the opportunity to get on my high horse - I don't get the chance very often.

Mry, getting on your high horse - just to beat up on opposing views, is just the kind of attitude I would expect from a frothing at the mouth Germanic sympathiser.
C'mon Turkey.

I resent the implication that I sympathise with anyone.
