You don't tend to "lethal cocktail of drink and drugs" as much as you used to, do you?

And I still hate reading stories like: "Paul Merson: My drugs hell."

Why can't we have: "Paul Merson: My absolutely fantastic time snorting grade-A coke off the navel of a dancing girl. Until I got shopped to the News of the World."

"At the end of the day" really irrittates the living fuck out of me.

I don't really know why, and I am still trying to decide whether I should feel angry because it's a cliche, or whether I should let it go as it's becoming part of common parlance.

*sigh*

One that gets me: "Right back atcha!". It just screams "you're not even worth the bother of thinking up a response".

I quite like that one actually. In fact I used it today in the music forum. The shame..

How about "there are question marks hanging over.." I mean, ..the FUCK?

I guess a lot of these things develop because news papers/broadcasts have to be written so quickly for such tight deadlines that there's not much time to consider the use of language..

Also: "asylum seekers", "illegal immigrants" - such horrible, ideologically loaded, contrived sounding buzzword phrases. Whatever happened to good ol' fashioned "refugees"?

According to the Daily Mail, they all came over here and nicked our jobs and women.

Now "bogus asylum seekers"...
