I've been reading 100% too, and really enjoying it. I always stop short of buying the HEAVY LIQUID paperback -- I read scattered individual issues of it from a friend and they were fun didn't really grab me. I think HEAVY LIQUID will be something I get someday when I've got money to burn, and not before.

I get a big box of free comics from DC every month, everything they publish (and it's tragic how few of them I actually want to *keep*, but that's another discussion), and I was so happy to see the final issue of 100% in this month's box. I sat down to read it...

...and 6 pages of the damned thing are fucked by a printing error. Right at the end, too. Bah! I can't even return it to the shop because I didn't buy it! Grr!

Guess I WILL have to go buy one, or wait for the collection...

Al, I read it too, but although I enjoyed 1-4, wasn't really that taken with this. Each individual thread finished rather than come to an end, what was the point of the girl who bought the gun storyline? Only the Strel starting her coffee company one felt satisfying, but I need to read the complete thing to get a grip on it.

On the positive side, Pope is a brilliant artist and I loved his style in producing this comic and the drafting of the pages.

I loved the final page. Definitely one of those "CHRIST! Why didn't I ever think of that?" moments. So simple but so effective. New York fucking City indeed.

The other thing I bought at the shop - the glorious, air-conditioned shop - was a copy of 100% in trade. I'm about halfway through it and enjoying it immensely. The artwork is so messy and swollen, the SF elements don't intrude/hamper the story too much, though at times I'm wondering if Pope can make use of them better. The scene in the Four-Dee holodeck dating lounge with John and Daisy is probably my favourite so far, telling each stories and questioning each other's narratives...

this is pope's best comic by far - glad you're enjoying it.

you know I can't remember what happended at the end and all the singles i bought are back in my parent's house. should dig them out next time i'm back.

damn good comic.

enjoyed pope's Solo comic too, gotta be said, but 100% is a much grander thing.

actually, don't know how it was/is received but I'd say 'wan hunner per cent' was one of the stand out comics (certainly from the big publishers) of the past 10 years.

I agree - I love the messy, semi-improvised 'THB' saga, but '100%' is his most fully realised work; romantic, gripping and captivatingly beautiful in it's execution.
