i was cruising the lyrics to the sonic youth song "swimsuit" from Dirty, (lyrics which by the way are extremely clear, i just wanted to check on something without listenning to the record) -- it's the song where kim lists the name's of all the supermodels who appeared in SI swimsuit issue, and then dazes off with the refrain "i'm swimming" and it's a typically vague sonic youth concept at that point, though the first half of the song is based sort of on anita hill. anyway, on Leo's Lyrics, which may be more aptly named "deaf guys transcribing lyrics", after a number of weirdly embarassing mistakes (he understood "i'm not give you head" to be "i'm not giving you headace", whatever that means) he heard "i'm swimming" as "ice women" -- and it seems to me that he misheard because of the world view he brought to the song. it make perfect sense that this isolated, lyric transcribing record freak looks at supermodels and thinks "those are ice women", whereas kim looks at them and thinks something spacey and playful like "it would be nice to be swimming there".
i just wanted to share. but i would encourage your best misheard + embarrasing lyric transcriptions on the net, with an attendant psych profile on why the words were misheard. |
