Here's the question... Should Barbelith have a one-week trial of a daily posting limit? Would people find it an interesting experience being able to post no more than (say) ten times a day for a period of time like a week?

I think it'd be an interesting experiment, but wouldn't it kind of kill off the conversation forum for that week or whatever? I don't know about other people, but if I'm going to only be allowed 10 posts, I'm going to post in the other forums like the books and magick and not waste a post on telling Barbelith "The shape of my inner asshole" or something of the sort.

what's the motivation for this, Tom? do you feel that barbelith is somehow not working? i don't entirely understand your urge to tinker with the social dynamic and intellectual process here when it is so good -- everybody debates, engages, socializes, etc, and most people here seem to think it's better than just about any other board on the net. therefore your motive in changing things is other than perfecting these goals. you've every right, obviously, to experiment with the dynamics however you like and see what happens... but i think it would be fair for you to explain what specifically you'd like to find out.

I suppose there are a couple of things to say. Firstly - no private messages wouldn't count. And two - I think it can't do any harm to just keep things moving and developing here pretty much solidly. Wouldn't hurt to try something to stop us all getting too comfortable... YOu know?

I've said previously when it's been discussed that I don't think it's a good idea. But a week's not going to hurt, I suppose.

I don't know whether a week would be long enough to judge what the longer-term effect would be of course.
