They're beautiful. Think of the horrible rap-rock fiasco that is nu-metal. Then imagine it done properly, like Senser used to... with a serious respect for the elements of the music that DON'T come with shouting and distortion, a respect that can only come from a love of all sorts of music and the desire to play what they want to play... Punk meets ragga meets metal. It's a lovely thing to watch.

Think Chaka Demus & Pliers crossed with Slipknot.

Three-quarters of the band used to be Dub War, if that helps. And Benji Webbe has the best voice I've ever heard, moving from soulful crooning to ragga to a full-throated scream, often in the space of one line.

And 'Pressure', if there's any justice, will be the single of the summer. Ragga-punk-pop better than anything currently clogging up your radio. Their first album 'Babylon', was just released, every song a three-minute nugget of cool, and at thirty-five minutes, guaranteed to leave you wanting more.

And at the gig last night, Benji was saying that you can download 'Brainkilla' free from their website, which I think is skindred.com, but don't quote me. If that sounds like the kind of thing you'd like, and you're sick of crap that purports to be crossover but hasn't the faintest idea, check them out on a listening post somewhere. Remember, 'Walk This Way' is a novelty song...

Wow. Didn't think anybody remembered Senser.

My friend's ex-boyfriend's brother was the singer, or something. Little hyperactive bloke.

'Age Of Panic' is one of my all-time favourite songs. But I'm not hep, so don't pay any attention to what I like...

Here's a second to the Skindred recommendation, although I'd put in two pennorths for seeing them live before listening to the record (although Brainkilla off their site may be free of the buffed up production sheen that takes a bit too much of the edge off the album). The first track (Set it Off) just makes you laugh at its sheer dumb audacity, a blinding mix of deeply stoopid cock rock, deeply stoopid drum'n'bass, and deeply fun dancehall. The Happiest Metal Band in the World.

I also remember Senser - they did a great version of Public Enemy's 'She Watch Channel Zero' with the lyrics changed so that they were about a guy watching Baywatch...
