Did you know - Quoting and Links....

We're all used to quoting around the board, and since the UBB quote button has been removed we've found various ways of doing it. But it occurred to me this morning that there was a very good way of referring to other posts that almost no one seems to use...

At the top of every post on the board is a line that says 'At [TIME] [DATE]'

The date and time are underlined, and are in fact the unique link for that post. So for example I can link to a post half through the third page of the thread on pedophilia like this.

All you have to be able to do is do a normal link, so I'll remind you how to do it now...

<a href="[THISISWHEREYOUPUTTHELINKCODE]">[THIS IS WHERE YOU PUT THE LINK NAME]</a>

As you see, it's fairly easy...

So for example, rather than quoting three paragraphs worth of comments, you might want to say instead...

"I agree with cusm's comments on the flexibility of the human psyche. But I have something to add...."

Ah, cunning! That will make multi-page threads easier to read (if people use it that is)

Can I make a request, though? There's no universal standard tag for quoting portions of other people's posts, or other articles etc. Some people use italics, some people use bold, but those aren't really perfect. How about the "blockquote" tag being allowed?

(you know what would be really cool... a link by each post that, when you clicked it, inserted the original post into a reply with a link to it as you describe)

Bringing back Blockquote isn't a bad idea...

The link to comments thing is a great idea- if only people actually click on the links, that is.

Ooh, Arthur Sudman hates blockquote...

I haven't been on Barbelith very long so could someone please explain to me how you create links or quote from somebody in bold letters?
Cheers

I like blockquote (and am in favor of a functioning <blockquote> tag). I just found the old indented Barbe-blockquote aesthetically lacking. Irrational, I know.
