Old habits die like flies in vaseline when you've got a corporate gold card. The good folks at Henry Holt and Co., Publishers of Renown, paid for Paul's munificence: dinner for twelve--and that 18-year-old Scotch isn't cheap either.

As for me and Grant: he's peevish over my allegations of occasional self-referentiality. Which seems an odd thing to be peevish about.

OK, that's surreal. Are you sure you didn't just call him a dickwaxer?

Morrison, that is, not Auster.

(I bet Auster had to spend three hours working on his baseball game for every single steak, you unfeeling brute. He never sees any of that money, you know, it all goes on blue pantone 280 for oh-so-sophisticated middlebrow softcovers)

Well, I'm never self-referential, me.

Grant (and all evidence is pointing towards it actually being Grant, although, as the New Yorker cartoon has it, on the Internet nobody knows you're a dog) was taking exception to this comment, which he quoted back to me, followed by a disingenuous

I BEG YOUR PARDON?

WHAT'S "SELF-REFERENTIALITY," JACK?

Seemed pretty goddam bizarre to me, too...

I wouldn't worry too much. It's not like he'll feed your cat acid and teach it to sing, like Warren Ellis did to me.

What evidence.

It's Knodger, isn't it?

...or, more accurately, did to my cat. But I was the one who suffered.

um .. quite good evidence actually. What with the capitals and all, I'd assumed it was Knodge too. Good job I didn't reply telling him to fuck off or something. Still, what weird, depressing emails to recieve from the ol' master..

I've confirmed the e-mail address with World Famous Comics Artist Cameron Stewart (artist of the upcoming LeSEXY)--and if it's not Grant, it's somebody who's hacked into his e-mail account.

And I don't think Knodger gots da skillz fa dat, yo.

Frankly.

So GM is Knodge?

But how do we know that's really Cameron Stewart? How do we know it's not, say, a disgruntled singing cat, relieving its burning resentment towards Warren Ellis by fomenting discord and anti-comics feeling?

Jack Fear
15:55 / 11.06.02
I'm paranoid enough to have actually considered that.

w1rebaby

It's quite feasible - I know mine's not the only cat to have suffered at his hands, though I hear he gets some of them to play the bagpipes instead.

Um....I can very easily send an email to anyone giving the impression that it came from, for example, grant@grantmorrison.com, or for that mattter anything else. It might not survive a detailed examination, but at the first level of complexity all I need to know is what the email address is. Now, if this is not directly available from his site, all I would have to do presumably is write Grant Morrison a few fan emails and get the right email address from his reply.

If he does have time to lurk here and send emails to people, however, then might I suggest he sets up a Grant Morrison forum? It would also save us a lot of money because he'd never get round to writing any comics.

It's not any of the obvious domain names.

Does it make no difference that Cameron has gotten a number of project-related e-mails from the same address--e-mails that could only have come from GM?

I have no wisdom in the ways of IT systems administration: indulge me.

ONLY NICE THINGS
16:22 / 11.06.02
Not really. The only question is whether nobody else in the whole wide world knows what that email address. If I had your email address, for example, I could write to you purporting to be Cameron, as I also have his. Of course, if you replied, it would go to Cameron, who would be duly nonplussed. It's just about changing your profile defaults - not even a hack.

If it is an email address used only for discussing a particualr project, it is comparatively more likely that it will be a particular one of the people who know that address, but only because mathematically there will be fewer people.

None of which means that it cannot be Grant Morrison, only that at the first level of complexity it need not be.

It's Mr. Tiddles. His revenge has begun.

Hmm. Weird how all evidence gives the impression that ol' Grant is sort of rude to his collaborator, Cameron. Especially considering that Cameron had to read an article in Newsarama to know that he had a gig drawing LeSexy.

Flux, the occasional unreturned email notwithstanding, Grant's always been a perfect gentleman to me, absolutely not rude at all. Careful with the assumptions.

And for the record, I wasn't angry or offended that I read about LeSexy on Newsarama - I was pleasantly surprised because we hadn't discussed it in over 6 months and I was assuming it was dead. Sure, I'd have liked to have been kept more in the loop, but apparently that's just how he is...

And what about the possibility that the message about the new gig was intercepted by a disgruntled singing cat? What if there's an army of evil singing feline acid casualties forming as we speak, hellbent on vengance? WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?

Well, I'd be surprised if Grant (or anyone else for that matter) got all upset because Jack accused him of repititious self-referentiality...I mean, it's hardly the world's worst insult, is it?

Can someone clear this up: Tom? Cam?

be sure to put his name in the topic line. and something questioning... like.... "Grant Morrison: Is he still sexy?"

That'll lure him in...

Why is it that after reading this thread, I keep thinking of Grant strappin on a pair of huge guns, trying a bandana around his head and looking at us while saying, "Do I get to win this time?"

Grant Morrison. He's back. And this time it's Personal. Just like the shark in Jaws 4.

A singing cat, you say? Hmmmmmmm.... how much do you want for it? I bet there's at least one millionaire out there who'd be willing to pay me.. er, I mean, us... a fortune for a pair of slippers made from singing cat fur.... yes....
