if you're not sure what you think about this war. if you feel uneasy but want to know more...

true dove is a non-profit making site that exists purely to act as an initial introduction to the arguments put forward by those opposed to the war currently unfolding in Afghanistan.

the civilians of Afghanistan, the poorest nation on earth, can do nothing to stop the sustained bombing of their war-weary country, except die in ever-increasing numbers.

but we, as citizens of a democracy, can. please copy this message and link to everyone in yr address book.

innocents are dying in yr name.

if you want to know what else we could be doing. if you want to know how to break the cycle of terror...

true dove - it's time for a second opinion.

...

...

..?

so, anyway, that's the text i would like people interested in helping out to cut + paste into their accompanying message.

either enable HTML on the message and use it where i have - or, simply cut + paste the addy at the end: http://truedove.blogspot.com/

i've updated the site again, and will continue to do so roughly once a week.

over the next week, we can also hopefully make some progress in setting up the other related sites (as mentioned in the 'help me' thread).

apologies that i've slacked off a little. i've been preoccupied with writing a short piece of conceptual agit-prop against this fucking world of pain.

oh: almost forgot: and if everyone who does this leaves an acknowledgement here? just to give me a kind of idea how it's going? thanx.

make SURE you put the addy at the end - even if you go the HTML route.

yeah, i've seen it...amazing though, isn't it? - maybe my favourite single response to the whole thing. ps: that mean you've done the mail thing?

I've e-mailed it to a bunch of people... top fucking work, man.
I've also (embarrassingly enough not really knowing how this e-mail circulation thing works... godDAMN I'm the crappest kind of technophobe) told them to send it to a bunch more people. Kind of lo-tech, I know.
Also made a note of the URL so I can actually PHYSICALLY give it to people. Written down. On paper. (I know, it's kind of last century, but, hey, I trust it, and I know whether it's got there.)
Again. Top fucking work, man.
Keep us posted on hits, etc...
also (slightly OT)- I think more mass (and I stress the "mass" part) virtual peacenik action could be in order... it may not change the course of events, but if we can (as I think we were close to doing at a couple of points last time) change one mind, or at least strengthen the resolve of one that's mostly on our side anyway... that's gotta count for something.

thanx stoatie, PAT: i really appreciate the support. 'specially as i'm recovering from some self-replicating and deeply tedious virus. makes a big difference to know my l'il site might actually be doing some good - released into the wild, as it were.

but, more generally -

does the lack of any other posters on this thread mean no one else has passed it on? the response has been a little... underwhelming. and when personal friends have pretty much been bitching at me for 'cluttering up their email' - well, it doesn't exactly inspire me onward and upward...

so: it genuinely would make a difference to me if anyone who has posted it on could say so - even just to acknowledge. and for those who didn't - i'm interested in hearing why - content of site, method of delivery etc - i think it was a good idea, maybe haphazardly executed, but -

feed me back here, people. i can only run on my own batteries so long without a bit of a recharge...

autopilot: to be honest, despite having linked to true dove a couple of times on the blog, and while I'm keen to start writing for the group blog, I haven't forwarded this on yet... I guess I just feel uncomfortable sending people unsocilited "go and look at this folks" stuff, no matter how worthy the cause. I'd prefer to work it into an online conversation or something... but maybe I'm wrong. I guess I should probably move out of my comfort zone...

kooky: i reserve the right to bear yr children.

and fly: i dunno. personal choice, but the way i looked at it is - although most of my friends are apolitical (and maybe not especially interested) - for every 20 peple that see the site intro, maybe 1 will see a viewpoint they hadn't previously encountered. maybe it'll make them think twice about what they are hearing, elsewhere.

i don't know: i'm not hugely proud of true dove - i'm too much of a perfectionist, and i didn't have the time to make it as good as it could have been. but the urgency of what's actually happening overtook me.

i mean, it's yr choice... but what's the worst that could happen?

re: peace in my time: do people wanna vote on which template we use? - can't say i like the one we're stuck with at present - but that was my oversight.

oh - and apologies for the length of my first post - but it was kind of an intro... in future, i'll aim for bitesize and packed with meaty linkage.

i really, genuinely think this is a worthwhile thing we're doing. and the group blog, i think, is a better balanced and generally more human way of going about it. i'm honoured to be working alongside youse guys...

we reeeally need to change that template. it's horrible.

best, i think, to find one which breaks up different entries better, too.
