Bone question

this is too weird to ask my doctor, so instead Ill amuse you all with my painless-but-disconcerting issue:

sometimes when I walk my ribs do something. not sure whats happening, but it feels like they are kind of overlapping and some movement or another makes them shift a bit, and kinda rub. sort of like they are unsticking from one another. and its only been happening for a little while, Id say under a year, over 2, 3 months.

three things. one, Ive in the past had a chest xray, and nothing was said about my bones. so Im assuming they are normal. two, Ive had no serious falls or injuries recently, and theres no real pain at any time. three, Ive lost a lot of weight, and it seems to have only started since then.

Im just curious, and a little weirded out -it feels really damn gross when it happens

even joke responses are welcome.

I sort of think I maybe know what you mean... very occasionally I get this sensation that there is like a layer of muscle or some other tissue that gets briefly tucked under a rib or two. It feels weird. I have no idea if it is the same sort of thing or not... or whether it is normal or not. Sorry, no help at all, that, really...

Ive lost a lot of weight, and it seems to have only started since then.

If you've lost a lot of girth in your midsection, your innards and gut-sac have doubtless shifted, which may have something to do with it.

More worryingly, though--if you've lost the weight through some kind of nutritionally-unsound crash diet, you may have developed a calcium deficiency or osteoporosis: that would effect the bones throughout the body, but you might notice it first in the ribs because of your shifting organs.

My two cents: if you're not sure about your diet, you might want to ask about a bone-density test.

it actually is - at least Im not alone (and maybe, just maybe Im not a total freak, either imagining it or possessing some sort of bizarre medical abnormality!)

actually, I lost it because I quit the medication that got me fat to begin with! dropped off like water. (and my altered diet didnt hurt, either)

but the bone density thing might not be a bad idea. thanks!
