In the Mouth of Madness, which did in fact star Sam Neil (from Jurassic Park) was Lovecraftian but not Antarctic.
I thought it was pretty good. Carpenter is one of those directors whose is either really, really good (Halloween, Big Trouble in Little China, They Live) or really, really bad (Prince of Darkness, Ghosts of Mars) with not a lot of in-between....
Halloween was (at the time) one of the most artfully made horror movies around. I liked to ask people who'd just seen it whether they felt that there was a lot of bloodshed in the movie; most say "Yes, quite a lot." In fact, there's none at all. There aren't even any on-screen killings, something that most people are surprised to hear. |
