I write shit. I'm not very well educated or well read. I have to use really simple words because my vocabulary is very tiny. Since landing here on Barbelith, things have become a little better, but I still feel I don't have much of a grasp on simple written communication. There have been a few times where I have been tempted to post in comic form, since it seems that this is the way my brain is wired now.

Using really simple words is not shit, moriarty.

I think a lot of writing suffers from dictionary-up-the-arse syndrome, including mine. Being able to say what you mean, clearly and concisely, is a real skill.

You're right about using concise language, Mordant, but I think there's something to be said for having a large arsenal of words as a back-up. My problems come about when I can't express myself because i don't have the proper words for it.

moriarty: Sure, it's nice to have a big vocabulary to draw from- that way, you're more likely to have a useful word at your disposal- but the important thing is not the number of words you can use but the way you use them. I started using foot-long words as a kid to "prove" I wasn't stupid, and it's taken me this long to break myself of the filthy habit.

If you still want to broaden your vocabulary I recommend Richmal Crompton's William books. Just deploy your new arsenal with care.

Oh christ I am drunk, but if you criticize any body for their writing style does it make any difference? I write feck al and when I do it is often the way I speak (spake) thus I often use the word fuck or fucking or feckin'. I have come to the suspicion that I may have been iggied much for this but that could be my own 'noia. I also just realised I apostriph' shit lots when locked but as said before feck it. Should I punctuate [waiting for the harpies to strike!!!!!!]

Sorry. I was just trying to take a shit little thread and make something of it. I so rarely enter the Conversation these days. This is starting to look like I was fishing for compliments, which bothers me almost as much as not crediting McCloud for that panel. I've been beating myself up over that for hours now.

I realized awhile ago that I could "read" comics better then I could regular text. At first I was worried, but recently I've come to accept it and believe that when the world turns to sequential art as the main means of communication I will be one of the elite, ruling over you Textites with my mastery of this strange and secret language. Bwahahahaha!

As a matter of fact, I've been meaning to start a thread about that in Comics, though it could apply to all mediums.

Thanx, mordant, at the expense of totally making myself out to be a whore, I like your posts in the magick myself. I also like ganesh's, Tom Coates, Captain Zooms, Bitchiekitties, Flux, whatsisname?... modthrees and many others but the ones I mentioned stick out. Personally, sometimes there are too many new members (I think) that don't post enough and it might be because sometimes [please don't kill me] it can get a ... little bit cliquey in here. That said I check this site a lot because it teaches me lots.
