Why not go the whole hog and steal the Beeb's web template for it? It would have more shock value.

i agree -- im sure you dont have time for it, cuz yr doing so much other cool shit, but if you made it really look like a news page, maybe jack a photo from somewhere showing london refugees or the city in ruins.

the idea in there of the 'free capitalist" terror agents is great too... i wonder how that could be expanded on...

offtopic- I've been blogging. Managed to master a few snippets of HTML and whatnot. This is a personal blog, but I'm ready to pitch in on the Stuff you're doing, as soon as you're ready. I'd happily do some news rewrites or some propaganda busting.

Any ideas what we do with this thing in terms of getting it out there? Is there a plan? I like it when there's a plan.

It's an amusing exercise, but I'm not sure what it proves, really. I mean, those of us who are intelligent enough to question what happens around us are aware that the rhetoric of war presents a morally skewed argument.

Honestly, I think it's beside the point. Ideologies and the best interests of different peoples are clashing, and conflict is the result.

It is critical for a political body involved in conflict to assure its citizens that they are in the right, and that they will be victorious. Why all the shock and horror at American rhetoric here? Is anybody actually surprised?

If the issue is with the right/wrong language being bandied about in the media, why limit ourselves by speaking in the same language?

because not everyone is as switched on as you, Ray.

The flip site is all about the verfremdungeffekt- transforming the familiar into the alien in an attempt to see it afresh for what it really is- in this case, exposing the media's role in creating contemporary ideology in the here and now, telling people what to think by controlling the way their information is presented. this site asks people to consider distant events in terms of places and icons they know. This link needs to go out to people who aren't clued up, to fuck with their programming.

edited cos thinking is hard.

OT but: The germans have a word for "transforming the familiar into the alien in an attempt to see it afresh for what it really is"? what a downright cool language! Why can't we have more words like that in english?
Flippancy aside, it's a great site. I think, for what it's worth, that it does bring the horror of what's going on closer to home. It helps/forces the reader get around the distance that we put between ourselves and events to justify them, instead of experiencing them in relatively abstract terms of morality and politics, filtered through so much black and white text and unemotional newsreading, it produces a far more direct emotional effect.
Um, did that make sense? Hope so. So, yeah, congrats AD for all the good work. maybe more later...
