Pakistan. Why Cooperate?

Pakistan's military government were suspended from the UN over nuclear weapon testing.

Their military government are now doing their best to please the US without taking their internal dissent as expressed by street riots (the natural form of democratic expression in that country) to intolerable levels.

My feeling is that they are doing this to get international acceptence of their role as nuclear power.

Is anyone else discussing the wisdom of this?

It's a military dictatorship seeking international acceptance. The fact that they don't want the US to become angry with them and bomb their military bases might also be a rallying point.

If you consider the analogy of a mad dog in the park, frothing at the mouth, nashing it's teeth together. Do you poke that dog in the eye and tell it "If you bite me, I'll poke you again" or offer it a chunk of meat in the hopes it'll leave you alone?

Then again, that's oversimplification (and a loathesome analogy). I'm sure they have more complexed reasons than what the layman can read off the surface.
