Esoteric Documentary Project

I am currently involved in the pre-production on a documentary about UK trance medium Maureen Flynn and the information gathered by her and her husband, Roger, since 1995. It covers a unifying narrative about such things as Stonehenge, Giza Pyramids etc etc. I'm on the project as director, and my main interest is how to approach the subject, as not to rubbish it off hand, or to be David Icke'sh. I'm thinking about how channelling has fitted into human history and philosophy. Famous channellers and those who have been famous and channelled, such as artists and scientists.
I will setting up a research team to investigate and process the data that has been recorded since 1995. With time permitting I will post some of it here to see what feedback people can offer.
This project is interesting to me, because it offers the chance to investigate the paranormal and question my own unsanity regarding it. It will be a challenge to produce a film that offers a candid and intellectual approach to what is often tabloid in nature.

It apperas that this documentary is going ahead. I was wondering if anyone has any experience, opinions or knowledge regarding the subject of mediumship and channeling?
How can one define it within a world view, psychology and science? What are the personalities/spirits that are channeled?

sounds interesting.
get "mays hows" (that just how it sounds, i cant remember how you spell it) its a burial chamber in orkney. i saw a documentary a while ago which wa abou how peole in the stone age used sound technology in order to induce trances...some fequency of sound (?in audible..i cant remember?) induces a trance..i thnk itwas 2 point something...one of the reseachers did it and had a trance experience, an the way he described it sounded a bit like the early stages of an OBE, pre seperation.

It was on channel.4 in the UK in aseries called "Secrets of the Dead- Sounds of the Stone Age" i was brilliant and tied n stuff about loads ofstone age monuments... about a week later i saw a fairly jobbees paranormal program which blamed some ghost sighings on things reverbarating at the same frequency mentioned on secrets of the dead.

heh, perhaps a litle of the subject...but by any chance did anyone record that secretsof the dead program or knowwhereor how i old get a hold of it...cos im taking a little trip up to orkney smoetime in the summer ^_^

I wonder if it'd be worthwhile doing something on Jung and "complexes" as other characters within the "self", and linking that into the same current as channeling.

There's a connection via surrealism (the surrealists linked Freud's theories with Spiritualist techniques like automatic writing).

I'm sure there are other, more fruitful links between early psychoanalytic thought and early Spiritualist techniques.

Did Freud or Jung write on glossolalia?

Note also that the Voodoo/Santerianexperience of being "ridden" by the spirits is not always full out ecstatic possession, but is often manifested as channelling. You've got a whole set of religions basicly set around the idea that devotees can channell, and often do to almost a casual level at times. The priests in particular tend to leave channells open for random acts of possession, which often take the form of needed words of advice at the right time. Something to use, possibly, as a cultural view of what amounts to a form of channelling.

The voodoo aspect is something that I picked up on in Benedict Allen's Last of the Medicine Men.

I'm gonna approach a friend of mine with an MA in Philosophy about Jung. He is a healthy sceptic to much paranormal activity, and would be a useful expert to have.
I'm even thinking of putting the medium through her paces with a few chosen experts.

I believe that Jung did write about glossalia. I'll have to look up where though. I think that some people in his family were proficient in speaking in tongues.

There's a good book called: Ouija: The most dangerous game. Even though it has an alarmist title the book is actually very balanced in its reporting of the Ouija board which is used in chanelling and stuff.

And speaking of voodoo and santeria, it'll be a good idea to also cover the drumming used. Also godform magick should be looked at.

There's a book: The Voodoo Quantum Leap. Its kind of like the Tao of Physics. It explains the Voodoo experience from a quantum mechanics point of view. Might be helpful for what you're doing here.

I've just finished directing my first 4 camera live event shoot for this piece. I've chosen to change track and back the horse and take the dollar/opportunity. Will be filming down at Silbury Hill, 'henge, etc, early next year.

The thing is that i was reading about John Nash schyzophrenia, it is said that it is wrong depicted in 'A Beautiful Mind'. Actually, John Nash had not visual hallucinations, but it had the sensation that he was receiveng transmissions from the space. Like channelling??

Where are you?

I know someone who channeled a whole load of incredible shit on some rather extreme doses of acid. He performs it rather brilliantly (it's poetry and plays...) Might make a nice montage/narrative type effect, depending on what the overall 'feel' youa re angling for is.

Could easily hook you up if interested, I reckon.
