being in the process of putting the finishing touches to an introductory version of true dove, i'm now looking towards following a similar procedure to create a page dedicated to news gathering from MidEast sources - especially in the light of this:

quote:the British government today claimed that five days of aerial bombardment had not claimed a single civilian life in Afghanistan.

...so i'm presently investigating the assorted newspapers of the MidEast region - especially with regard to reliability and bias. i should stress i'm interested here in what is being reported - not commentary or editorial.

anyone have any sources?

I was listening to NPR last night and heard a story about a Middle Eastern TV (or radio?) station. Unfortunately, I was listening as I was falling asleep. They said that they were trying to emulate "Western ideals of balanced reporting", which, naturally, meant that Middle Eastern governments AND the U.S. are unhappy with what they report.

Phonetically, I think the station was called "Al-Karija" (but again, I was going to sleep so I didn't write it down, I could be wrong). I'll try to hunt down a transcript from the broadcast to give you a real name.

It's Al Jazeera TV.

Here, near the bottom of the page, is the Morning Edition story I heard on it if you want to hear it for yourself. When I did a quick search for the station itself, it looked like most of the sites I got were in Arabic. The English sites looked like they were just more articles talking about the station (the end of the broadcast mentioned that there is no English broadcast of Al Jazeera).

I hope that helps.
