MSNBC reports an NBC employee has tested positive for Anthrax. My girlfriedn says Rockefeller center and 5th avenue are the site of much police and fire activity right now.

Its entirely possible that another person or group, completely unrelated to the events of 9/11, is responsable these anthrax attacks. There are lots of sick opportunistic bastards out there and that thought scares me even more. Theres really no way of knowing how many people will try to take advantage of this situation.

In the 1950s, the ground on which AMI now stands was a test site for military chem weapons.
And the strain of anthrax they found was apparently traceable to an Iowa military lab -- which produced the anthrax in the 1950s. – our man grant, at the scene in Fla.

But the FBI put those stories to rest on Thursday. “At this time there is no information concerning any link to Iowa,” said Larry Holmquist, an FBI spokesman in Omaha, Neb.
Attorney General John Ashcroft also downplayed reports that the germ had been stolen. “I have absolutely no evidence to indicate that the anthrax in Florida was stolen from any lab,” he said on NBC’s “Today Show.” – from the MSNBC article

Compare & contrast....grant posted the above on the other Anthrax thread, days ago.

Anthrax in New York?!?! Where do I get tickets?

Seriously people, we're talking about Anthrax. Little freaking spores. We're bigger than they are. Stomp on them. Geez. Colds kill more people than Anthrax. Next thing you'll know - they'll be saying the West Nile Virus was a terrorist attack (ooh! germs! me scared!). Hell maybe we'll see people dressed like invader zim walking around with anti-bacterial sprays within a week. heh.

AND Anthrax did a halfway decent cover of "Bring the Noise" back in the early 90s.

(Can't remember what strain it was, though..)

this seemed much more alarming when I first posted it. I don't feel in much danger now, but over half of my office has fled the city by now. Hysteria. Like another 80s metal band.

A hybrid strain, no doubt.

Yeah, there's a freaky vibe in the streets here as we get closer to Friday PM Rush Hour...the "RED ALERT!!!!" front pages on our local papers don't help much, either...

Just heard a similar package got sent to the New York Times. Will try to find out more about this.

Yup. quote:In New York, Mayor Rudy Giuliani announced at a joint news conference with NBC executives that The New York Times also had received a suspicious envelope, and that investigators were testing its powdery contents. ...
Giuliani said the city was reacting to the incident with "an excess of caution." "Everybody wants to go to the extra lengths to make sure there are no problems," he said.
Police closed 43rd Street between Eighth Avenue and Broadway -- in the heart of the usually congested theater district where the Times building is located -- to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Much more at CNN.

Actually, that's the name of Def Leopard's successful 1990 album, featuring such tunes as "Pour Some Sugar On Me" and the title track.

Close, though.
