The new series started last night on C4 (UK) - anyone watching it? I watched some of the last series and liked it so I think I'll try and watch all of this one.

If 24 is the show that creates tension, Oz must be the show that creates fear watching it you really get a feeling of the danger of the prison and how about the end of the episode with the statue smashing French guy. I had a look and didn't see any other threads about this, anyone have any opinions?

Yes. Really happy Oz is back on the telly. Really like it. I think there should be more stuff on the box that genuinely upsets and disturbs, as opposed to stuff that basically reassures us that weverything is predictable, cosy and knowable.

I mean, Oz has a a schtick that it's loathe to deviate from, but, within those parameters at least, it's tres cool.

& for once C4 haven't given it a 1.35 a.m. slot - hooray! Having said which, too busy working on course work to catch it this week. I know what you mean about the "fear" thing - it does get under your skin and make you feel well creeped-up afterwards.

I was worried that after two years, my response to the new series would be - bleh, what did I see in it? But no! It was great. And it's double the length of the last three seasons!

Watched it on tuesday. Fucking brilliant. I haven't followed it for ages and I think I missed about 3 or 4 episodes in the meantime. 4 people are dead but at least I can probably catch the repeats on TG4 (irish language station that most programs and films are in english - thank fuck). What happened in the meantime anyway?

You're really that "creeped out" by 'Oz'? Admittedly I've only watched one episode but it struck me as faintly ridiculous - a sort of souped-up 'Heartbreak High' with added (and distinctly camp) pseudo-authentic prison 'hardness'. I'm afraid I just couldn't take its posturing histrionics seriously at all...

I've really enjoyed "Oz", namely because it a nice rufutation all those who insist that "The Sopranos" is so fucking brilliant (tired and obvious crowd pleaser that is; brilliant it ain't). It's the only one of the crop of supposedly smart HBO series that I actually feel is worth watching.

I catch OZ occasionally when I'm up that late and slumped in front of the box, I kind of like it. Yup its been going a while in the same groove but it does it very well.
Whats the name of the guy who does the voice overs at the beginning because I just love the way the series began, them all behind glass with him telling us the US has the largest prison population in the world and the later explaining the orgins of prison slang. Its cheesy but still cool.

It's just updated greek tragedy, innit?

"Heartbreak High"? Oh...he is a one!

Yeah, it's posturing alright, but I just let that go....y'know, for fun.
