...cause if i do this alone, it won't be good enough.
you may or may not be aware of true dove. if you're not, all you need to know is it's my scattershot attempt to provide an online resource for informed peace protest.
it's ok...but alone i don't really think it's going to convince anyone. a hastily-produced, sketchily-written mini-essay, reheated articles and a clutch of links to the real worthwhile sites do not a comprehensive resource make.
i need more.
which is where my friends, barbelithians and fellow humans come in...
i've virtually finished a second version of the site (including some much-needed revisions suggested by 'lithers) and am almost ready to ask those who broadly agree to start mailing it out...
...however, the closer i look, the more i realise it makes a pretty ineffectual response - alone.
so...what i'm appealing for is help in setting up a series of related sites to support and supplement it.
i think the basic diy ideal i started off with is fine - sidestepping drawn-out design work etc in favour of hijacking a blogger page and using one of their less-offensive templates. time is of the essence. there's a war goin' on...
having a network allows immediate access to one or any from - well, one or any.
here's my initial proposal for the initial network:
1. true dove
'cause it contains a (rewritten) intro, and a pretty definitive archive of voices a whole lot more informed than mine - as well as an annotated links hub (that's presently unannotated - but give me tonite...)
2. pure stats
tactical support in the shape of a page of pure facts and figures - all removed from any argument. obviously, anything posted here would have to come from a reliable, sourced site (and with embedded link).
3. flip the script
not sure what people are going to make of this one - but i like it. the idea is based upon something i wrote in the 'bombing Kabul' thread - where i wrote a news report based upon this campaign, but swapped the names and nationalities round. i thought it worked as a mental exercise. now i'd like to post up real articles rewritten in this manner - interesting shifts in perception.
4. peace in my time
a simple, group blog. apparently we'd use something call metafilter. dee knows more about it than i do. i think it'd be nice to just have people in our position making semi-regular entries on their thoughts and feelings - thinking aloud as it were. a no agenda, no propaganda section. an everyday emotional reaction.
5. MidEast live & direct
very simply, a section devoted to posting up news (factual, not opinion) as reported in the actual arab nations - and maybe compared + contrasted with the western versions.
...and if anyone is interested in adding their own segment - that can be put into the loop as well.
i think the 'pure stats' and 'MidEast' sections could do with a single editor...the others (except 'true dove', which is mine) metafilter.
ok: anyone interested?
peace, blog & empathy?
