It was nice. Luke Skywalker as the fool, Han Solo as the magician, the usual self referential cleverness that makes magic what it is.

Fundamental archetypes of myth, always fun. You could do the same thing to the Invisibles, X-men or Chopper chicks from Zombie town, but probably not as well.

Never seen Steve Wilson before. Reminds me a bit of the 'Ultimate Magus' from the Nemesis the Warlock VS Deadlock story. (that sounds so geeky.)

Sayz on the flyer -

The Cthulhu Mythos as a pratical Magical System

Tom is secretary of the London Carpocratian Gnostic Group, writer, artist and comedienne, with a lifelong interest in the occult and in HP Lovercraft. Tonight, she will endeavour to show that Lovecrafts Great Old ones ar enot fiction but fact, and that the Cthulhu mythos can be used as the basis for a very effective and pratical system of magic. But, be very careful.....

She, Tom? Anyway thats what it says.

This wednesday, i.e. tomorrow, the talk is on Magick and Surrealism. I'll be there by 8.00; maybe see some of you's?

I will be trying to make it to this one, honest!

Although given it's quarter to midnight and I am still at work, I may just fall over in a heap, then again I might get my second wind - who knows?

Anyway, I'll do my best to be there. Can whoever is going keep an eye out for me as (believe it or not) I'm acutally quite shy and will run away again if I can't recognise anyone, although I will try to pluck up courage to loiter so as to be spotted more easily.

Yeah, nice to see folks- the evening looked to be dissolving into Jim Morrison-esque boozy chaos as I left, with Ghadis near the epicentre, foam-ropes spilling from the mouths of nearby debaters, going on about Freud and surrealism or somesuch

Hey Gozer!

Good to see you around again!

I didn't make it, although I really wanted to. I had to go see the closing night of "The Birds" at the National, as I hadn't got my act together to see it earlier and friends who were in it would have beencrushed it I hadn't made the effort. Sigh1

Was it good? Interesting? Informative? I would love to hear about it, as death and death rituals is something I am toying with to build some performance/es around.

Hmm, you didn't really miss that much, the woman who did the talk just basically read out a list of customs (ranging from the obvious ie covering mirrors, to the pointless ie covering water jugs so the escaping sould doesn't drown) then concluded with the 'death meditation', which I laughed at all the way through. Well I tell a lie i tried to start it but when she said' try to imagine your eye balls melting into your brain' i had to open my eyes and chuckle only to see about five other people doing the same thing. Some how i couldn't get my concentration back after that.

Groans all round really.

However i will be going to the next one because surely no one can make discordia boring...can they?

Revolving megapope indeed!!

Its certainly the sort of thing that would appeal to my lot. But I don't think I know Ian, unless we've met interwebnetically. I want to be there but I am feeling blimmin rough so I doubt you'll see me tonight folks. Have fun though, if you go, and let us know how the talk was if you don't get to pished to remember the details.

Latest info:

Wednesday 18th May: Gareth Medway - The Exorcism of Robin Hood's Grave

Gareth is a Priest of Themis, intrepid scholar/historian of the occult and
perverse author of "The Lure of the Sinister", a study of the hysterias and
moral panics surrounding Satanism (NY University Press). Tonight he will
tell how fate, the Gods and circumstances led him to do arcane and perhaps
desecratory things on a Yorkshire hilltop.

Wednesday 1st June: Jacqui Woodward-Smith - Sex and Death: The Real Love
Goddesses

Jacqui is a Priestess of Avalon, working with the Ancient Goddesses of the
British Isles, and yet a mere novice in the mysteries of love! Undaunted,
though, she will talk tonight about the often veiled faces of the Celtic
Love Goddesses, particularly Blodeuwedd and Rhiannon.

Wednesday 15th June: Liz Gale - Adventures of a Gardnerian High Priestess

Liz has been a Wiccan High Priestess in the Gardnerian tradition for many
years, as well as being a Reiki Master, a practitioner of Tarot and and
Reflexologist. Each tradition of magick has its own practices, protocols and
prohibitions and tonight she will offer some insights into those of Wicca
from her years as a High Priestess, many of them working with the recently
deceased Harry Greenfield.

The Secret Chiefs meets fortnightly on Wednesday evenings (or occasionally
Thursday or Friday) upstairs at the Devereux public house (20 Devereux
Court, off Essex Street, London, WC2). Nearest tube is Temple. Meet from 7pm
and the talk starts at 8.30pm. Admission is £2 (£1 concs). All are welcome.

Thanks Bill! With any luck I'll get to Liz's talk should be interesting. Pity I can't make Jaqui's or Gareths as they should be interesting as well.

"Jacqui is a Priestess of Avalon, working with the Ancient Goddesses of the British Isles, and yet a mere novice in the mysteries of love!"

Ms Woo-Woo-Smith a 'novice'. What nonsense. She's keen as mustard on the mysteries of love. Keen, I say, keen.

Next Secret Chiefs, 15/7/05 is Jack Gale, Carole Hart & Jaqui Wodward-Smith on "The Gnome and Poetess". The 27/7 & 10/8 are TBC no details. 24/8 is Nathaniel J Harris on Hereditary Witchcraft.

LEMC, next is on 13/9/05 the invention of sacred places by Bob Trubshaw. 27/9 is David Rankine on the angelic legacy of John Dee, which is probably the only one I'll get to for the rest of the year. More details when I get them!
