Recommend me a counsellor/therapist type in London?

Preferably one that operates a sliding scale, 'cause I am a poor student and all. I have had atrocious luck with the 'stick-a-pin-in-the-yellow-pages' approach, and I would much rather try someone that comes recommended... I've tried gestalt therapy and psychodynamic counselling, both of which were ok, but fucked up for one reason or another... I'd try either again, or something else entirely. Alternative approaches, queer-friendly practice/therapists much desired. I want personal recommendations, kids... please? Anyone?

Hmm, a friend of mine has a therapist he really likes - am currently pestering for details.

Further to the above, I've no idea how alternative/ queer friendly this therapist would be. I'll get what details I can, anyway.

Plums is probably a good source of information, if she's reading this?

Can't advise about specific counsellors, Cholister, but I'd suggest you try a good long course of something a little more cognitive-behaviourally orientated.

Ah! Sorry, Ganesh, how could I forget about you?

No idea what type of therapy my friend's been doing. So I'm not much help at all really. Good luck, Chol.

I had quite a good CBT therapist, but he was 75 quid a session, which may be a little out of your price range. It was pretty much out of mine, and I have insurance (which I have yet to get reimbursed from, the fuckers.)

If you're unemployed, can you get therapy for free?

On the NHS, yes.

I'm sorry, but every time I see the phrase "CBT therapist", I get the giggles. It's a perve thing.

I do know of this one guy, actually- he's pretty unconventional in his thinking, and broadminded if rather unworldly. But I only know him in outside of his counselling capacity so I don't know how good he'd be, and he's pretty pricey. I can PM you with the number if you want, Chol.

Yeah, I know. Colleagues talking about how they're 'CBT-inclined' gets me every time...

And to think I *resisted* the urge to make the "£75 for cock and ball torture?" gag...
