Seems to be working now, for me, at any rate:
quote:
Passenger attempts to storm cockpit
Fighter pilots flock to plane's side

October 8, 2001 — A passenger tried to enter the cockpit of American Airlines flight 1238 from Los Angeles to Chicago. Military jets raced to its side. The plane landed safely at O'Hare Airport.

Two F-16s scrambled to the plane, creating a sonic boom as they broke the sound barrier. Some of the northwest suburbs heard that noise, which sounded like two large explosions.
"I heard a huge, gigantic boom," said Sherry, who lives in Barrington and was obviously shaken by the noise.

"I had no idea what I was supposed to do with six kids," she said, her voice shaking.

The pilot called in a passenger disturbance when someone began banging on the 767's cockpit door. Airline officials now say that the passenger is a young man who is mentally disabled. Officials say the young man apparently just wanted to go inside the cockpit since he had been allowed inside another plane's cockpit before.

The FBI says it is possible that no charges will be filed in the case.

CNN news interview with witnesses and newsies:
Passenger suddenly rushed to the cockpit, forced his way in & tried to pull the co-pilot from his seat.
"Some big guys from coach ran behind him and pulled him out of the cockpit....the next time I saw him, his hands and feet were tied and he was being carried towards the back of the plane." How? "Horizontally" unidentified
woman who had been sitting across from the "perpetrator and his father"

Me: "Great precedent y'all. Vigilantees! From now on hijackers/terrorists will be subdued or beaten to death by passengers."

From now on hijackers/terrorists will be subdued or beaten to death by passengers.

Which is better than allowing them to take control of the plane in the first place, isn't it? What would you have them do? Sit back and allow themselves to be taken hostage?

What would you suggest the passengers do?
Pray to God they don't die?
Wait and see if a Sky Marshall is on board?
Call home and say "goodbye" just in case?

Good for them I say.

um, weren't the US government saying there'd be an FBI agent on every plane? If so, what was (s)he doing?

they're saying they hope one day to put some armed US Marshalls on some planes sometimes. and even that measure hasnt been passed yet.

i'm very glad to know passengers are ready to make a move. though who knows what wouldve happened if that guy had slashed a throat and used intimidation tactics, right?

when I flew from NY to LA last week i was fucking ready for action, honestly. and i was worried that everyone around me would act like sheep if something went down.

so much for sleeping on the flight.
