Dungeons and Dragons?

So, why does everybody hate this movie so much? I liked it. It had all the basic fantasy elements. A naive hero, annoying sidekick, a love interest for the hero. There was the quest to get the magic object of power necessary to defeat the big bad.

What's the problem with it? I just don't understand. What were people expecting?

It was completely adolescent. Sure, the dragons were cool, but it was painful to watch. At least the annoying Wayens brother died badly. That almost appeased me.

I don't know, it had all the elements for making a good fantasy romp, but somehow put them together with all the skill of a 12 year old DM. I had fun with it, I'll admidt, but it was horrible filmmaking.

The sad thing about the death was that he was brought back to life in the end.

I just don't understand how anybody can screw up a fantasy film. It could have been who they picked to play the hero. I kept expecting Superman to rush in and say "Don't worry Jimmy, I'll save you".

They should have gone the route of the Deathstalker films. If you know your movie is bad, toss in some gratuitous breast shots.

I expected it to be like the cartoon. That was why I was disappointed. I loved the cartoon when I was little. Boo.

That might have actually made a good movie. A cute little cgi unicorn, and a group of teenagers from the modern world thrust into a world of magic and danger. That might have worked.

It would've been seriously cool. Venger and all... annoying square jawed blonde hero blokey, incompetent magician, wimpy cavalier, girl with invisibility cloak, fantastic acrobat, annoying little kid and a pukemakingly cute unicorn... tell me that would not have kicked arse?
And then they could do a live action version of 'Children of the Sun', too. I'd be delighted, I really would.

Dungeons and Dragons II: The Keep on the Borderlands

Now that'd be more like it. For D&D III: The Tomb of Horrors.
