Old ass cartoon question!

Im having a stubborn brain moment. I cannot, for the life of me, remember any of the names of this cartoon that was on tv in the late 70s/early 80s (not sure when, I just liked it as a kid and you can still see reruns).

so Im going to pathetically try to explain it, as I know at least one of you will know what Im talking about. maybe this will be fun. maybe it will just be maddeningly frustrating

ok:

"thor" kinda guy, looks much like heman. blonde and whatnot, wearing a brown pelt for a jumpsuit. shows much manly thigh. carries a club. *snicker*

rides some big dinosaur-bird thing, very fierce looking but apparently very friendly. I think it breathes fire or something.

I think theres a rock-man kinda guy running around, and some kids or something.

but heres the part I cant remember for my life and I really want to: the blob-thing. I think theres even a little blob, and the big one makes this happy-gurgling noise that I think of, everytime I see my hello kitty cthulhu (I do an excellent impression of it, its disturbing good fun)

I don't remember the name of the cartoon so much, I'm pretty sure "Herc" started off the name, and there were a few dinosaur types in it. I don't know the pink blob's name, but it did seem to be indestructible, shielding the boy (there was a boy in the cartoon as well, the Heman type always needs a boy friend for some reason) often, and could also change shape a lot.

yes, he was very rubbery and they would bounce on him or something

haha. this is so bizarre, I remember so little of it I wonder how much Im confusing with other cartoons (or even making up)

Oh boy.

Let me think

There was Thundarr, Ookla, Princess Ariel.

There was no blob in Thundarr.

The Herculoids had two blobs, a rhino, a stony gorilla thing and some annoying kid.

It was called Herculoids.

You've got the Herculoids and Thundarr mixed up. The Herculoids had the critters in it.

Gloop is probably the name of the blob. Unless you're talking about the female blob, then its Gleep.

Dorno is the little half-naked boy, Tara is the scantily-clad chick, and Zandor is the hero. He doesn't wear much.

The whole brown pelt thing is what threw me off. Thundarr wears a brown pelt and looks a lot like he-man.

...you can sometimes find the Herculoids on the Cartoon Network if that's available to you. Would be nice to see it and Thundar as mentioned.

Thundarr comes on sometimes, in the wee morning hours. And this fall, CN will be showing G.I. Joe, Transformers: Armada, and G1 Transformers. I'll be in nostalgia fueled happy geekland.

They used to show Thundarr a few years ago before Toonami. It came on either after or before Captain Planet.

Now if only I could find episodes of Visionaries without going the file sharing route.

wasn't there a thread about some weird arse guy naming his daughter after some character in Thundarr, or something? or was that just a weird dream i had?

A cross between a horse and a brontosaurus? Can you provide any more information?

The only two cartoons I remember with dinosaurs were Dinosaucers and that dealth with intelligent talking dinosaurs and there was Dino Riders which dealt with people riding around on heavily armoured dinosaurs.

I vaguely remember that horse - a huge horse with lots of legs

I think.

Yes, yes, a horse that looks like a dinosaur. I've got that part. A bit about one of the characters in the show would be very useful though.

Herculoids FAQ

The many-legged horse-thing belonged was from the aforementioned Thundarr, I believe: not sure if it was ridden by him or by one of his companions.

It's nothing to get excited about Zoom. Just a single piece leotard deal

How stupid the people from Eternia were? I mean, they invented a car which was the slowest thing in the world because it had no wheels! Instead it moved sort of dragginf itself over, please help me here, conveyor belts or something... And the car could talk, I think, and it never said: "You stupid cunts, give me WHEELS!"

There was a thread dedicated to a loving father who named his daughter "as Princess, Ariel".

Ohh ohh, 80's cartoon fever! Anyone remember the only time when they showed He-man changing back to Prince Adam?

I thought Gleep was the name of the purple monkey on the justice league. With the wonder twins, gods, what were their names- Jana and ?

Hey does anyone remember Schmoo? He was this little white blobby charater that had a very cute voice and hung out with three girls. Looked like a bowling pin with legs.

Hmm, what do they put in those sugared cereals that make kids think this stuff is totally cool?

Jana and Jace (sp?).

Don't blame the cereal. Cereal's great. Mmmmm.....G.I. Joe cereal.

Yeah, I remember Schmoo. Spent a good deal of my sixth-form life trying to persuade people that the cartoon actually existed and wasn't just the product of my diseased mind, until one day I met a girl who knew how the theme tune went. Sang it to me once, refused to ever again just in order to torture me.

All I can actually remember of that one is that Schmoo could turn himself into whatever shape he wanted. This one episode he got locked in the3 back of a van by a bunch of thieves. No problem for out Schmooster, you'd think; he can just slip under the gap in the door, or through the keyhole or something, but no. Schmoo changes into a dog and starts barking, fooling the crims into letting him go.

Kind of shows how much bollocks those old cartoons really were.

Fun Cartoon Facts!

The Zandor model sheet presented above, along with most of the Herculoids preproduction work on the show, was created by comics legend Alex Toth, who also did work on the Superfriends and Scooby-Doo, among others.

The Schmoo originally appeared in the comic strip Lil' Abner, and was one of the biggest merchandising bonanzas born from the comics page, with stuffed animals and soft drinks and the like. Lil' Abner also pioneered the Sadie Hawkins dance.

Cartoonnetwork.com has comissioned various modern cartoonists to do their own interpretations of classic cartoon characters. Below is Mike Mignola of Hellboy doing a few characters from Herculoids. Cartoonnetwork.com is chock full of various cartoon goodness. Their D.O.C. (Department of Cartoons) has vast amounts of storyboards, backgrounds, character sheets, etc. including a section on the Herculoids.

I remember a period in early secondary school when endless juvenile amusement was to be derived from drawing an enormous penis outline on the cover of one's Physics jotter then, as one's classmates looked on in horror, 'converting' it to the oddly-genital New Schmoo. Oh, happy days...

Trijhaos: Nope, thats the only thing I remember about it. That damn multi-legged Bronto-horsey.

Anyone remeber The Pirates of Dark Water. That was a great little cartoon gem.

Pirates of Darkwater?

Yep. Nibbler, Ren, Iaoz(sp?), and whatshername?

It's too bad they never finished it.
