Loveliest redux

I can't be bothered to find the old 'What's loveliest?' thread, but I'm sitting here grinning like a nutter and had to share this with you:

1. For many years, one of the highest pleasures of my life has been listening to the Uncle Len line "And everything depends upon/How near you sleep to me", in that odd quasi-erotic, quasi-painful way that makes you go "oh!" in a quiet voice (or, apparently, if you are a boy*, go "Yes!!!" and punch the air in triumph).

2. Oddly, I only own one Smiths album, so I decided to remedy the matter by buying Louder than Bombs the other day and have been listening to it fairly continuously ever since.

3 (and this is the lovely bit): suddenly Morrissey's voice snaked its way into my brain/abdomen singing: "Everything depends upon/how near you stand to me" - which is not only lovely because he understands how lovely Uncle Len is, but also because he is not cheeky enough to say "sleep"...

I'm sure everyone already knew that, actually. Oh well, carry on.

*according to my friend, who is a boy. He might not speak for all boys, though.

He doesn't.

ONLY NICE THINGS

Indeed. Uncle Len sometimes does that to me, but usually only with "Diamonds in the Mine". Normally I just go "meep"

Meanwhile, at Loveliest NORAD...what is loveliest is Willow offering Oz her virginity, telling him she is ready, and him saying that, that's really lovely and very important to him, but he isn't. And then that they get to schnoogle in jimjams and watch the snow fall.

My girlfriend telling me over the phone that if we got stuck in a mountain, in a hailstorm, she wouldn't eat me. But it was more the *way* she said it.

I thought Oz was a warewolf for fuck's sake. I thought he'd have been well up for a bit of animal passion.

Ahh, but Oz is a lovely werewolf.

I would dispute that as the loveliest moment on BtVS. Mine was Xander's response to Cordy's asking if guns made him think about sex: "I'm 17. Looking at linoelum makes me think about sex."

I can relate.

Spending the night at my ex (from many years ago)'s house, as friends, but very good friends. Her dog's also one of my dog's puppies, and always goes mental when she sees me. It was fundamentally a very nice evening. Walked the dogs, watched movies, slept. It was basically wholesome. And really nice, too.

A friend and I worked some stuff out. It had been weighing v. heavily on me, seemed insoluble, but we really connected, and that was very beautiful and exceptionally lovely, and I am so very grateful...

The other thing was feeding my dog a sausage all of his own from the fish and chip shop. He deserved a treat, and that was so much fun for me.

Finding out Star Wars came out the day after I finished college made me grin stupidly every time I saw a poster.

ooh! ooh! spending yesterday day at a circus festival/convention seeing the amazing variety of skills, approaches and backgrounds...
actually contributing to a scary discussion full of big circus bods, and feeling the passion about the form fizzing round the room...and realising for the first time what an amazing mongrel thing it is.

but best of all seeing half the town, not just an 'in group' of performers and artsy types, at the festival, being wowed by loads of free performances and workshops.

particularly cool was seeing Circus Baobab, an amazing show utilising fantastic technical ability, wonderful music and great voices to tell a spellbinding story.

and then after the show, watching little kids mimicking their moves in the ring, totally going for it.

wow.

Going to the Smiths disco on my own, wearing all my favourite clothes at once despite having no idea whether they went together (I don't have a full-length mirror in my house) and far too much makeup, and dancing like a lunatic. And then having three people pay me compliments and the lovely lovely teen Mozza girl give me a tulip.

(And I have to side with Haus on the Oz-Willow moment as the loveliest thing ever in Buffy, I'm afraid.)
