I can't be bothered to find the old 'What's loveliest?' thread, but I'm sitting here grinning like a nutter and had to share this with you:
1. For many years, one of the highest pleasures of my life has been listening to the Uncle Len line "And everything depends upon/How near you sleep to me", in that odd quasi-erotic, quasi-painful way that makes you go "oh!" in a quiet voice (or, apparently, if you are a boy*, go "Yes!!!" and punch the air in triumph).
2. Oddly, I only own one Smiths album, so I decided to remedy the matter by buying Louder than Bombs the other day and have been listening to it fairly continuously ever since.
3 (and this is the lovely bit): suddenly Morrissey's voice snaked its way into my brain/abdomen singing: "Everything depends upon/how near you stand to me" - which is not only lovely because he understands how lovely Uncle Len is, but also because he is not cheeky enough to say "sleep"...
I'm sure everyone already knew that, actually. Oh well, carry on.
*according to my friend, who is a boy. He might not speak for all boys, though. |
