Magick or Illusion?

This is the second time in as many months that I've been "accused" of using magick. Either I'm in touch with the ethereal - yeah, right - or there is a lot of projection going on. Ever happen to you?

Of course it's definitely not an illusion. I will tell you more next time......

It could very well be that people are projecting their own angst in your direction – yet often people don't always know their own strengths, psychic or otherwise. Do you feel comfortable giving examples of the accusations?

Lurid, dear, you're being vague. You're going to have to give everyone a bit more detail if you want real input.

um, Yeah...

People do tend to project, lots of people tend to seek out some target to blame for what's happening to them... weither or not they "know" you're "into" magik or NOT...

PATricky is right. People project all kinds of crap onto you if they know you're into magick, or even if you look like you might be. FTR, Lurid's not really out as a magicko, but he's into the whole Gothic look.

I had a shitty landlord once we were having some disputes with. He knew what sorts were living there. When his life mysteriously started going to shit, he was convinced we had put a curse on him. We didn't, but it made him feel a lot better telling him in a formal voice that his curse has been lifted. Poor bastard had managed to curse himself. It happens. People can be overly supersitious sometimes, and "you're a magick person, you must be to blame for this" can seem like an easy explanation.

The specific examples - I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested, so I didn't say too much.

A month ago, or so, I got into a big argument with someone saying stuff I found really offensive. The idea was to challenge my preconceptions and I got very angry. They then fell off their chair and got a headache. I put it down to their being drunk, but they felt very strongly that it was my doing. I'm not sure if that was the motivation that made them recant and apologise. Seemed strange to me.

Just today I got an email from a friend who has deliberately avoided emailing me for a while. She has done so because in my last email I asked if she was pregnant - apparently she had conceived a couple of weeks before, but wasn't sure. She avoided emailing me because she didn't want to dodge my question, but she certainly felt a bit uneasy about it. I just thought it made sense - she is already a mother of two and has made indications about wanting more. The time seemed right. Hardly divination in my book, but she seemed a bit spooked by it.

Give me a decent definition of "magick" (or "illusion" for that matter) and I might be able to answer.

Or not. If you go by Crowley (or Bey, see below) I'm not sure this qualifies.

"Sorcery: the systematic cultivation of enhanced consciousness or non-ordinary awareness & its deployment in the world of deeds & objects to bring about desired results" -- Hakim Bey

Well, my background in witchy and newagey stuff tell me that could very well have been you, Lurid. I speak psychic energy wicca fluff, and in that tongue it looks like you used a "spiky shield" on the first fella. By that, sometimes when we defend ourselves or get worked up, we can psychicly lash at someone without realizing it. If you don't do a lot of psi work to learn how to get a handle on that sort of thing, your abilities may well be going off on their own, and they may be stronger than you realize. I know people with psi strong enough that lights burn out and brooms fall over when they get upset, so a headache is hardly unheard of. Especially if they are afraid of you to some extent to begin with. Fear makes one vulnerable to this sort of thing.

As for the second one, that just sounds like straight up psychic intuition again. Nothing to be ashamed or afraid of there. Just a little natural witchcraft kicking in on you

I'd maybe agree if strange stuff did happen round me a lot, but it doesn't. Things only fall over because I don't look where I'm going and I trip into them.

As to the woman I got angry with. Did I employ a spiky shield? Dunno. I think she got a touch intimidated, which I intended, and then started feeling bad about it. That and her drunkeness were enough to cause her symptoms. I'm not sure there was much magick about it - I just influenced her mood a bit. That tends to be quite easy to do, either for good or ill. It just needs a bit of observation and the application of the right sort of psychological pressure.

Yeah, I have been called a "brujo" in some rather extreme situations where I said I was going to do something and everything that happened afterwards forcibly precipitated/facilitated what I intended, but I was not doing anything from part (I felt sort of un-covered, wanting to say "No! That's not my doing! The other day was it!"). I have also rided on "synchronicities" I was expecting to occur with no one becoming a tiny bit aware of it, so this definitely relies a lot on what people perceive and on their own superstitions.

It also appears that I have some "dream agents" or para-identities that my close acquaintances recognize in their dreams enacting and operating many of the things we discuss and address in waking life. But I do not direct this either, so it is not my work of "brujo", whatever they say.

paraidentities, dream bodies, astral bodies, tulpas, ficsuits, thoughtforms... Where does Totalself end? (perhaps food for another thread?)

Hey ciraconn: Check out this thread
here, it sounds like you've got some food for it!

Strange stuff doesn't happen to magickians or psychics 24-7 (thank fuck – we tend to be busy enough as it is! ). But most of us are more conscious of our psychic energy, have a certain amount of training in how to use them, and awareness of the responsibilites involved in using them.

Um Will? Your post is somewhat vague. Is that meant to be an in-joke? because Lurid doesn't think he's a witch at all.

You know what? I've just remembered that a close friend once called me and said that previous night he had dreamt that he was going to be executed and I was the happy hitman who was going to get the job done, coming after him with a smile on the face and a gun. It was so realistic that he woke up out of the nightmare. Of course, this all coincided with a period of extreme stressful situations in waking life.

You could always settle it the old fashion way: Tie Lurid up and toss him into a river. If he floats, he's a witch and we get to burn him! If he sinks, then he's not a witch and he gets to go to heaven.

Aah, such forward thinking times.

Thankyou will et al, for your votes of confidence. Its nice to know that someone thinks I'm good enough to pointlessly sacrifice on the altar of magickal paranoia.

I don't think Will's post is a bit vague. I can't think of anything less vague than burning someone at the stake. "So, does this mean you don't like me anymore?"

I'm a bit surprised that you asked a woman if she was pregnant. I've known a few people who have gotten into trouble for this. But I do know that this ability, whether it's psychic or not, is not terribly uncommon. I know at least one person who has been able not only to call a pregnancy, but call a pregnancy of twins early in the term.

She's a close friend SMS, and used to my tactlessness. As for vagueness in witch burning...

I think the vagueness is in the intent. I mean, being burned at the stake you gotta wonder if it was something you said. The thing that would bug me is not knowing exactly what it was.

I know will was just kidding but huge capitalised, bold print, 16pt demands for immolation are the kind of thing that might be taken the wrong way. Luckily, Ierne stands in the way of the blood thirsty rabble - unaware that women make much better kindling. hehehe

to go back to the beginning...its happened to me alot.
i've had ppl phone, text, email me and say 'stop sending those vibes', but i'm not doing anything and its not like i'm even that sparked about the ppl complaining to bother thinking/vibing them. but its happened so many times...i swear i'm not doing anything in these instances, because when i do try it feels so different.

thoughts?

I was going to ask if you were aware of a subconscious desire to send those vibes. But if they were subconscious, you could hardly be aware of them.

And what about the other way? I mean, instead of being "accused" of black magic working, has anybody ever been asked sort of "please send more of those vibes" that you were not aware you were sending?
