Spring boarding from the recent Barbelith webzine article on Fortunate Son.

Have people read This book? Do they believe its allegations about George W. Bush's drug taking past? Or did revelations about the authors past criminal record effectively destroy any credibility in what he had to say?

Or did revelations about the authors past criminal record effectively destroy any credibility in what he had to say?

If he had the evidence I don't see how. No one argued that Chopper Reid's book was fictional and he was a crim through and through. The whole process of discrediting the author sounds so manufactured. Various people pushed in certain ways to produce a scapegoat that would bury the story. Its the american way isn't it? Either that or go to war.

The book seems very well-researched to me. I read the version that has a foreward about his book getting dropped from St. Martin's press, as well as Hatfield discussing his time in jail.

Except for the coke arrest everything Hatfield reveals about Bush is very well-covered in terms of his research. I don't think the fact he spent time in jail makes his information any less credible.
