Edinburgh festival flat-swap (attention especially ZoCher/Ganesh)

The Good News:
I have been offered a part in a new musical "Friends of Dorothy", playing througout August at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Yes, it's a gay reworking of Wizard of Oz: the clue is in the title. How can I not do it?

The Bad News:
If I want to go to Edin for the whole of August it will cost me £400 for the cast flat, travel etc., and it will also cost me £380 in rent for my empty room in London. Thus I will be £780 out of pocket and I don't have that much pocket to be out of.

The Solution:
Barbelith of course! I need to hear from
a) peeps who'd let me stay chez theirs in Edinburgh, either for the whole Festival or as long as they can manage at a reasonable or free rent, and/or
b) people who fancy a month's jaunt to London and a stay in a friendly Barbe-household in London's rapidly-getting-nicer, well-connected, very central, half-an-hour to Soho and Covent Garden, near the Almeida theatre and Sainsbury's, Bloomsbury, British Library and Museum and Islington - King's Cross. Or anyone who lives in Edinburgh and fancies a straight swap for August.

For b) people's info., my room is a reasonable size with a double bed, TV & video, phone, high class art on the walls and ensuite toilet/shower. The house itself is a two floor maisonette with a big ol kitchen, friendly housemates (including another Barbeloid) and another bathroom. It costs me £380 pcm but I'm willing to negotiate and indeed rent it out by the week if people want to stay. I wish I could offer it free but money is, after all, the issue, so any rent from a lodger would be better than nowt. I will pay all utility bills except phone for the month.

Dear kind people, please help. Remember, it's for the sake of Art. And music(als). Anyone who can get me a job in Edinburgh (pub/office/anything) for the month will also be showered with kisses.

Oh poo. This would've been infinitely doable if we hadn't a) rented out our spare room in the Edinburgh flat, and b) committed to six months' rent on the place in Willesden Green. Of course, if ZoCher's offered a job down here before August, you'd be more than welcome to our room...

En suite means you have your own bathroom attached to your room, right? How many housemates and which Barbeloid, if I may ask?

I'll ask around, Priestess.

The good burghers do have a tendency to fleece our bohemian summer influx. We've already had to turn away my friend's brother and his troupe of performing gay boys and I'm sure your artistic credentials are much more worthy. If I get the long sought London job any time soon, I'll speak to the flatmate and give you first shout.

As Big G said, we have the crippling rent of our friends' Willesden flat to cover until they get back from Africa in October. The trick is for me to identify anyone who's going on holiday and willing to rent their flat out in August. The bigger trick is to find someone who hasn't noticed there's a festival on then and has a tiny mortgage to cover. I will try.

I remember, when I was living there, that it was a favourite money-spinner to rent out your flat to journos for four times the usual price. I, like a fool, usually decided to stay and see a few shows, and spend most of my time muttering "fucking tourists".

How many housemates and which Barbeloid, if I may ask?

It's me, and an enigmatic (*not* inscrutable, that would be racist) Japanese guy of uncertain age and purpose.

He's a chemist, and there's nothing wrong with that. Not that we can prove, anyway.
And yes, my ensuite is an adorable little shower/toilet roomlet with a plethora of lovely ladies on the walls. Bog roll included in the price!
Thanks in advance for your help, Zo & Ganesh. I may not be a performing gay boy, but I'll try to be the next best thing . ..
