I once spent some time looking at IQ questions, in particular the mathsy and geometric ones (which are really mathsy but not with numbers). Since I think about these sorts of problems a lot, I try to spot patterns in the patterns.
On the whole, you get simple ideas popping up in terms of pattern recognition. Once you get the idea, it is very easy. Its exactly the sort of thing you can train for to improve your score by a substantial margin. So, for instance, I once did about ten or so picture questions. The first question took me five minutes, the rest took about 10 seconds each.
Does that sort of thing compromise the idea of IQ test? I don't know. Given that I'm not sure we have a good definition of intelligence, its hard to assess the question. |
