Its come to my attention that we have a philistine in our midst. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but those persons implying the superiority of Avon, series 2 (sic) are sorely deluded. I'm talking about Blake's 7, naturally.

Now I'm an easy going chap, but I can't stand idly by while this sort of trash, pernicious propoganda in fact, is regurgitated by those who I can only assume have been brainwashed. For starters, there were four seasons which were assigned letters, rather than numbers. Of these, Avon clearly reached his pinnacle in Season D. Some poor souls insist on Season C as the appropriate apex. These unfortunates are misguided, but surely sound of heart.

I can find no such temperance for the Season B blasphemers. Theirs is a malign influence which I cannot let pass.

Much as I hate to admit it, the boy's right.

Compare and contrast the dowdy garb inflicted upon Series B (yes, that's B) Avon with the handsome chrome-studded black leather ensembles that were the hallmarks of Series D.

No contest. Absolutely no contest.

What is this Blake's 7 stuff people are always going on about?

I kind of like the season A ensembles myself.

'Season' is an Americanism, as is the lettering. Blake's 7 is a British show and is referred to by Series [Number].

Avon in Series 4 gave rise to the following joke:

Q: What's more tragic than a balding man without a hairdryer?
A: A balding man with a hairdryer.

He looks nice in the brown-and-orange flight suit in Warlord, but as far as his hair goes it is self-evident that he is at his best with the haircut commonly known as my-mum-stuck-sellotape-on-my-forehead-to-get-my-fringe-straight.

That's fringe, not combover.

1) Series letters rather than numbers is an atavism.

2) Series 3 and 4 have no or very little Blake. No great loss in itself, but it means the whole thing becomes far less slashtastic. Furthermore, series 4 has no Liberator. As such, Lurid Archive is clearly wrong in every important respect.

3) Helotrix? Happy now?

Besides, I am not argung for Avon Series 2's superiority, only his suitability to this particular ficsuit. The kind of "detail" that your grand, sweeping plans tend to ignore, Blake. Oh, you'll see the Federaton fall, rightly enough, and who cares if none of us lives to see it with you?

I am not a quibble, Blake. I am not a detail and I am not your servant. You explain your explains or this ship goes nowhere.

On the question of the attractiveness of Avon by series, I would refer you all to
avoncentric where... where, actually, Series One wins by a mile.

Hmm. Apparently, I have no autorisation to view the page that Deva links to. Which begs several questions....

You're next on my list, Deva. After I get rid of Haus.

Just take the last bit of the link off.

Try this link. The problem could be the frames.

Already done. My being-a-fan-of-proper-Avon powers allow me to understand really complicated computer stuff.

Don't know, it's apparently folded now, but I'm reading a book of short stories one of which is a true tale about said magazine and it mentions a contributor who went under the name "Diva" and I just wondered...

Cat Chant

Ah - no, common mistake but "Diva" is a girl's epithet, while "Deva" is a boy's name. This boy's, in fact.

Better with computers? I think not. Some people may be impressed by cracking a few Federation codes. Some people are very easily impressed. And have curly hair. And dress like Robin Hood.

So, what season had the cat person in it? (J/K)

but on a serious note, these out on DVD? i have seen a few episodes here and there, but i hate vhs and i hate spending money twice (vhs AND dvd) so are there plans for the release if it has not happened already?

Cat Chant
08:09 / 12.05.02
There are plans to release it on DVD, but no date for this as yet. Rather like the movie (omen absit).

The actor who played Deva is David Collings, who (fun fact) also played Silver in Sapphire & Steel, where he was a bit more suave than the fussy bureaucrat who stole Blake's heart away with his dazzling tech abilities and tendency not to slag off his outfits.

(Haus, did you ever read the story where the reason Blake never got in touch with Avon is that Deva entered Avon's address in Blake's address book as "kerr.avon@knowitallbastard.com"?)

Season D Avon is dark, troubled and heart broken. He also wears studded leather the whole time and regularly flirts with Servalan/Sleer (a wonderful dominatrix) not to mention Orac (an irritable computer come fishtank). Blake is much better as a memory than as a leader.

Shame on you all.

Series D Avon was proper Avon, all leather, chrome, brooding, and edginess. A man bereft, not just of the love of his life, but of the person who had come to represent his very conscience.

FUCKING ROCK!!!

I was willing to be reasonable and to compromise. If you had recanted and offered an unreserved apology, I would have hardly held a grudge.
I wasn't counting on the sort of mindless dogma that I've seen here.

As to Deva's suggesting that Avon was bald. Words fail me. IIRC, hasn't Tom specifically mentioned this as abusive behaviour that is liable to get you kicked off the board? This is why the board needs guidelines for behaviour; so people are aware that certain extremist positions cannot be tolerated in a civilised community.

With regret, but also with a certain steely resolve, I must second Lurid's call for sanctions. To suggest that Avon was at any time follically challenged is dileberate and calculated affront to everything I hold sacred. I can bear this intolerance no longer.

He's not bald. He's mostly bald. Look at that receding hairline.
