I just love my local aquarium. its even got a little rain forest on top! I dont usually get into stuff like this, but I think this one is brilliant, and take every opportunity to go.

for those of you with some time, take a look

i have a thing about seahorses so will check this out in detail.

the london aquarium is pretty good but i feel distinctly uncomfortable paying to see things in cages, so i doubt i'll go back.

their seahorse exhibit is fantastic. this is a "seadragon" - this picture doesnt come close to showing how gorgeous they are.

Im going to go soon and take some pictures. if I end up with some good ones, Ill send them to you

and I hear you about the cages - why I dont care too much for the zoo (especially the cat cages, they just circle the cage, panting - surely a clear sign of stress?) and I despise the circus

well clowns scare the shit out of me so i have no problem with not going to the circus. zoos are more aware generally of animals' needs and conservation (i remember when the lions' cage at london zoo was just a horrible rectangular prison) but i can't stomach the places.

seahorses are beautiful, odd little creatures. i have a wonderful soapstone one, a present from my mother. photos of seahorses would be mega appreciated! and the seadragon - very other worldly.

Id never known that such things existed 'til I saw this exhibit. its amazing in person. hopefully my pictures will do them justice (unlike this one!)

are those frilly bits part of the seadragon? amazing camoflage if so!

i'm not too knowledgeable about these things, but there's some incredibly wierd shit floating/swimming around in the oceans - stuff we may never see.

male seahorses take care of the pregnancy deal, too.

yeah, it is

according to the little feature they have on the site, most of these seahorse species are "vunerable - the species is likely to become extinct in the medium-term future". what an amazing thing to lose

you certainly should. not sure if they are still having it, but during certain months they have a "fridays after 5" special where its only $5 to get in.

need any tips on where to - and not to - go, pm me

isn't baltimore the hometown of john waters? i do hope they've a statue of him in the town square or something....

yes. unfortunately, they dont have any momuments to him. they should!

did you know all of his movies are filmed in baltimore? and that they guy that does the hair for all of his movies used to do my hair? and that he used to hang at the same coffee shop I did (I was a teenager and I dont drink, give me a break)? and, and, and

homicide was also filmed here, I lived a few blocks away for a while. I have to say its quite a pain in the ass when anything is shot on the streets - they take up half of a goddamn road. forget about parking anywhere near it!

i knew the early trash movies were filmed there. so he hasn't headed to hollywood yet?

am very impressed with the hairdresser story. and i prefer coffeeshops to drinking houses these days, so no problem there!

i work in bloomsbury where there's often filming, too. peering out of the window at it gives me something to do, although it was my sister who was always star spotting (john malkavitch going into a newsagents and stuff).

The only time I was in Baltimore they were shooting the last season of Homicide. And, of course, I went to the bar they always shoot in. And I'm fan-geek enough to have the pictures to prove it.

And as for sea horses...jellyfish beat them by a mile. Nothing is as beautiful in the water as jellyfish.

That being said, I was disgusted when I went to the aquarium here in New Orleans and they had a small shark (nurse shark, I think)in a shallow, small box on a table so people could pet it. I just wanted to grab the box and make a run for the Mississippi (a few hundred feet away) and throw the shark in.

someone tried to sell me drugs literally across the road from the police station they used in Homicide

Ah, Homicide fan-geeks. The main reason I'm going to Baltimore is because I'm dating one...

What, a Homicide fan-geek?
Did she move there or something? If so, that's admirable devotion I just have to respect.

bizarre, yesterday i was waiting for a tube train and i suddenly got this mental picture of having a seahorse tatooed on my left arm. no idea why. have always loved seahorses, though.

i still haven't made it to the london aquarium, even though it's like 10 minutes from casa robrona. must rectify this -- i love aquariums. the one in golden gate park was one of the highlights from my trip to san francisco...

On a pedalo in Spain, way out to sea, I saw a seahorse, floating upright in the water. Dead. That really freaked me out. They are amazing little critters. Kew Gardens have some in the tanks under one of the big greenhouses... I've seen baby ones, which are just weird.

I like jellyfish. One summer, the Albert Docks were full of them, hundreds and hundreds, probably thousands, all sizes. I guess the water was warmer in there, or something. That was pretty amazing. The tiny ones are actually really cute.

There is stuff in the seas that is not any less impressive or beautiful than the creatures in 'The Abyss'. And it's real, which makes it even cooler.

I dunno about the bar. I could never watch that show, the camera made me decidedly queasy

there was actually a pretty impressive jellyfish feature there a few years back. I dont like them nearly as much as the seahorses, but it was still amazing to see

Im told (although I dont know for certain) that every one of his movies is shot completely in baltimore
